​ ​ ​ FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Colorado’s Sanders Honored as National Quarterback of the Week​ FORT WORTH, Texas (Sept. 6, 2023) — Colorado junior Shedeur Sanders has been selected as the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week for the first week of the 2023 college football season, the Davey O’Brien Foundation announced. On Saturday, Sanders passed for a school-record 510 yards to go along with four touchdowns as the Buffaloes secured an upset road victory over No. 17 TCU (45-42). Sanders finished the afternoon 38-for-47 through the air. His completion percentage (80.9) established a new school standard in a game with at least 30 attempts. The 510 passing yards were the most by any quarterback making his FBS debut since 1996. Sanders finished with a passing efficiency rating of 200.1 and a total quarterback rating of 90.6. Sanders also earned Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week and Pac-12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance. The Davey O’Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981. Over its time, the Davey O’Brien Foundation has given away more than $1.3 million in scholarships and university grants to help high school and college athletes transform leadership on the field into leadership in life. In 1938, O’Brien, who was a star quarterback for TCU, became the first player ever to win the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Award in the same year. I’ve been thinking about this lately - underclassmen debating whether or not to go pro.

If I was on the fence, I’d take part of my NIL money and get a Lloyd’s of London injury policy and still have more money than I could spend as a college student. Best of both worlds, IMO. Protect your long term finances while continuing to do what you love or finish what you started.
