Sir Larry Scott.. (P12 considering buying out Larry Scott)

P12 management continues to be a **** show, and the Presidents need to start paying more attention to this stuff. They've tried hand wave away the officiating issues but it looks like it was a bigger problem than initially reported and stories continue to dribble out.

I kind of get the feeling the only reason Scott hasn't been canned is the conference is too cheap to want to pay him to go away with three years left on his contract. Not sure they can afford to let him make another mistake with this upcoming rights renegotiation though.

Pretty much. The issue with the Pac 12 is the west coast is way more apathetic to sports than any other part of the country. It goes all the way from your average Joe walking down the street up to University Presidents.

the Pac-12 didn’t want to cede complete control of the networks to ESPN, and that ESPN felt like their offer to the conference was a long shot.

While a deal with ESPN probably would have finally gotten the network on DirecTV, the risk of losing out on potentially billions more dollars in their next rights deal was too much of a risk
 
Everybody seems to have a very pointed and personal vendetta against Scott and the Pac 12. The state of the conference is personal to a lot of people and it frustrates a lot of people. It’s also low hanging fruit

The facts about Larry Scott's performance and leadership style do not lend themselves to him being a likable figure.

It would be hard to write something that leads to the inevitable conclusion that someone's an ass without it feeling personal. It needed to be reported, though.

Limo Larry can eat a bag of dicks as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, he’s the wrong leader if he views pointed criticism as a personal vendetta. Even if the critiques were personal, this is not the kind of exchange a good conference commish would have on the record with any reporter.

That's the thing.

An unedited interview where Scott was promised an opportunity to give complete answers that make his case was not something in which Scott was interested. Thought it would benefit the journalist (from exposure, I guess) but wouldn't do anything for Scott. That's troubling. Makes me think that Scott knows his job performance is indefensible outside of a carefully controlled press release or statement.
 
No one should feel sorry for Larry Scott. He talked a real big game when it came to the media rights deal that was quite revolutionary when it was unveiled. If all the PAC schools were privately owned instead of ten state funded schools, it would be a much different conservation in this case.

My eyes are on the upcoming renewal of the MWC's media rights negotiations. Next athletic season will be the final year of their current deal. Craig Thompson the MWC commissioner is allegedly as inept as Scott.

I jokingly state on other forums including this one that Dan Beebe is still available for a reason.

In some ways, I wish Larry said yes to that ESPN offer. Once the amounts that each ACC school is earning with the ESPN run ACCN, Larry is going to be labeled as a genius or idiot for turning down the ESPN offer. Larry will be crying how unfair the critics are one way or the other.

Went to the at&t store today to add an iPad. I told him I use it to stream Dish Anywhere. He asked me “why Dish” as he clearly wanted to sell me DirecTV. I told him I’m a Pac 12 fan and dropped DTV when they failed to pick up the Pac-12 Network. His response was, “Yeah, I get that a lot.”

What it sounds like is he knows his time is running out. And he knows there isn’t much he can do about it.

Problem is the conference has no "#2" in the pipeline that has a strong understanding of football and how to leverage it.

When they let Keving Weiberg leave they lost their "football brain" and only hired unorthodox people with no big-time revenue sports backgrounds.

The presidents should insist on a "football director" position that lets the commish stay focused on the big picture and that person have full authority as it relates to football operations.
 
I will be interested to see if they raise the money - there are always suckers around with big bucks ( See Theranos). The increasa to 750 Million glosses over the fact that it is a decrease from the initial total equity number. They originally wanted $500 Million for 10% and now they are giving up 2.5 times the equity for 1.5 times the money. So the total value decreased from $5 Billion to $3 Billion.

I just don't see it as an attractive investment - VCs are not usually interested in a 25 year investment. The ones who have long horizons are usually pensions funds. I see the sports TV rights thing as an industry in turmoil.
 
He’s a tennis guy. Country club dwellers don’t see the world through the same optics as the kid who fought his way up through every obstacle. In his mind there is nothing wrong with him staying in the nicest suite in Vegas. In his mind he’s earned it. He was the right guy for a period of time, but tht time has passed, and none of the University Presidents have focused on athletics enough to bring it home. There are always five things on the list on their home campus ahead of the Pac 12 TV contract and Larry’s luxury suites and offices.
 
Big-12 lost out on that one. They were hoping to get $20 million for each championship game and got $40 million for all three right?
 
I'd hate to think how much the P12 CCG is getting those days.

Wait wut? Did i read that right?

In the new deal, which includes three championship games and ESPN+ rights, ESPN will pay a total of around $40M. When this agreement is added to the current media-rights deal that still has six years to run, the conference will average $22M per year

Not sure. Just saw Dodd’s breakdown and he said the big 12 was asking for 20 million for each championship game (3 that fox declined) and only got 40 million from espn.
 


This while Sir Larry rents an expensive hotel room in Vegas during the Pac-12 tourney.
