Observations from a Basketball noob.

Well, not technically a noob. I've been going to CU basketball games since the 1980's. I just haven't ever really gotten into it the same way I get into football. Anyway, I've made two games this year. I don't have tickets to any other games, and my schedule being what it is, it's unlikely that I'll get to any more. It's probably been 5 years since I had been to a CU basketball game, and there have been some definite changes in that time.

1) The students have really upped their game. They packed the entire South section - all the way to the top. Very impressive. Loud, disruptive, and funny. The "Where's your coach?" chant after the ASU coach got tossed was fantastic. Kudos to the students for what they've accomplished there. I didn't really think it was possible. When I was a student, we just sat wherever. Nothing was organized. The difference is very noticable.
2) Parking - nightmare. We drove up Colo Ave and didn't make it to 28th st before stopping. We waited through two light cycles without moving an inch before we pulled into the left turn lane and proceeded to park at Basemar. This has got to improve. The CEC was half full at tipoff because there was a line of cars a half mile long waiting to get in. This isn't rocket science. Figure it out, folks. Unless they make some serious improvements to this, they're going to start turning off the casual fans (like the sack family, for instance).
3) Concessions - I saw chinese food & some other weird sh*t for sale. Bizarre, but I like it.
4) Scoreboards, ribbon boards, other subtle improvements inside the CEC - very nice. I like the Ralphie tribute along the North Wall, too. Very cool. I don't know how many folks take the time to look at that, but it's worth the effort.
5) Attitude - this is the biggest change. CU basketball has been so bad for so long that people had begun to think it could never change. It's changing. Everybody from the fans to the players to the dude working the concession stand expects CU to win every single home game. That is a totally new feeling. It's a good thing.

CU basketball has done something I never thought possible. Well done.

Good stuff, sacky.

You know, we could solve the issues of traffic by having a huge sackygate on the Business Field a couple hours before each game. Just throwing that out there. :wink2:

don't park on campus. park on a side street off of the 28th frontage road or park at the DH. easy.

yeah parking is an absolute mess right now. I come down 36 into Boulder and can often wait for 3 cycles of the light to turn left onto Colorado. There are really only five parking areas the parking garage next to the keg, law school, the b-school lot, the garage under the CEC or the lot across the street. Either way Regent takes way way too much traffic.

But on the other hand that means we are starting to pack the house. I can't tell you how many times in the past I used to park on the hill by the kitt cafeteria, get a front row parking spot and walk 50 feet to the front door of the keg. I really think that eventually we are going to have to take over the whole area between Folsom and 28th north of Colorado. They can build a gigantic athletic complex and add parking garages that can be used for football, basketball and would ease a lot of traffic on Regent drive.

Sure, I could do that. In fact, that's basically what I ended up doing. The fact remains that they need to get their sh*t together. We were there 30 minutes prior to tipoff. Had we stayed in that line of cars, we would have missed the beginning of the game. Did you notice how empty the place was at the beginning? That's all on the CU parking staff.

Oh, and I saw the female cop who hassled us at the tailgate last year. I was soooooo close to asking her if I could take her picture. She still looks good. Her partner looks like Dennis Franz, though.

Traffic problems for basketball and football has been a nightmare for years when the basketball team actually draws a crowd. CU doesn't seem to know how to handle the traffic. I used to solve the traffic issue by arriving very early, but it wasn't always possible. I never wanted to miss a minute of the game. It isn't rocket science to figure out a way to get cars parked.

Doesn't help with the construction at Broadway either. Anyone know how long that's supposed to take?

I think another year.

It's definitely pushed people who live in north or south Boulder to use 28th/Hwy 36 to get to campus instead of risking Broadway. Also, the 6:30 tipoff didn't help. Figuring in time to park and get seated, even people in town had to start their drive during the 5pm rush hour.

****. The construction closed the bus stop is use so **** once again.

I'm usually able to sneak onto regent going North on Broadway with little difficulty. I generally avoid 28th at all costs if I'm arriving within 30 min of tip-off.

All tricks aside, they still need to get their sh*t together. This isn't football. You ought to be able to arrive 30 mins before tipoff with a reasonable expectation of finding a parking spot and walking to the game.

We always just head up a little early, park at the Dark Horse, have a beer and walk over. Though obviously this wouldn't work if everyone tried to do it. The resurgence of Buff basketball has to have been a nice little financial bump for the Horse, particularly for the mid-week games.

With tomorrow's game being officially sold out, good luck with parking tomorrow.

They're sending one message with this "official sell out," but if you try to buy regular tickets, they are still available. Strange. I originally didn't try based on what I'd heard and the twitter post at the top of the official website, but that's obviously not correct.

Sooooooo, if you want to go to the game, I'd hurry up and try to buy 'em while they're still available on the site.

I just tried to "buy" 1 seat anywhere in the stadium. Got the "can't find" message. Sellout!

As much as zona sucks this it's still a pretty big game for the program. I hope we ****ing destroy them. Please, please don't lay another egg, buffs. When was the last time the buffs stepped up and followed through on an expectation that they had built for themselves?

I think you're referring to the teriyaki bowls (which is japanese). I didn't have one but their delicious aroma could be smelled all over the arena. Kudos to whoever thought that one up. Potential tailgate item or is it 'merican food only?

They've got that "name", for sure. Cal might be leading the standings, but it's a win over Arizona that will make the Pac12 take notice.

...and it's just ****ing huge as far as conf. standings go.
