Air Force Fires Basketball Coach

A little surprising they didn't wait until the end of the season, but the writing was on the wall here. They were poised to have their best season yet under him and this 6 game losing streak has completely derailed that. The MWC is much better than expected this year though and made it tough on AFA. SDSU and UNLV are top 15, New Mexico is a solid tournament team, and Wyoming and CSU both proved to be much stronger than expected.

Things aren't looking good for Bz, either. Deacs are last in the ACC at 2-8 and if they go out with a whimper and finish 2-14, he might be gone. The fact that he's pals with WF's AD probably gets him one last shot next year, but the heat was on Bzdelik from the day he arrived in Winston Salem. He's now a combined 3-23 in ACC games

Anyone else think that Bz has been type casted into a foundation builder? No one can argue that Bz did a very good job building a strong program foundation here at Colorado, but I think most realized that he wasnt the guy to really build up the team as Boyle is doing. I think the same thing can be said of WF. Dino I think was a very good guy for the program, but lacked the ability to rebuild a team to compete consistantly with Duke/UNC. He could bring in good talent and I think he could coach (some may disagree), but if your admin/school/town dont support you, your ceiling is pretty low. I could see him in WF one more year, start to show a little promise, then they will move on to a big time coach.

Yes, rebuilding a program from scratch and taking it to the brink of respectability (Bzdelik) and taking a program on the brink of respectability to a top 25 program (Tad is off to a hell of a start) are two very different things. It appears we lucked out and got the best of both. I was more shocked when Bzdelik left than I was pissed off, although it scared the **** of me that McClain could have been our HC, and obviously Tad was an unknown.

Remember Bzz and Reynolds wouldn't schedule each other because they were good friends, and didn't want to ruin that. Some stupid crap reason. Bzz can thank DU's coach for his successful AF stint anyway.

yup, Joe Scott. Bz inherited a very good, disciplined JR and SR class from Scott.

I think WF AD said Bz will be getting a 3rd year already. Much of their problems have to do with lack of talent that can't be change that fast unless you are Calipari.

thing is though, when WF canned Dino Gaudio he had a top 10 class coming in. i don't hide i wasn't a huge fan of the Bz hire at CU so maybe i'm just piling on the guy.

Yeah I admit its a weird dynamic going on down there. Dino took the job over an unfortunate circumstances (prosser's deaht) so maybe after a few years the AD knew he wasn't "his" guy.
