CU Buffs add another lacrosse recruit

It seems like they should just hire thier current coach (Barton?). I dont know much about college lacrosse but it seems like he has built a succesfull club program and he already has a good pulse on the talent. Seems like a logical first hire to start the program out and get the recruits, and if he doesnt fully measure up in a D-1 atmosphere we can get a new coach in a couple of years.

I'd prefer to hire a coach with D-1 lacrosse coaching experience. There's a big difference between the club level and the college level. The club coach might be a good choice for an assistant on the team, though.

I agree. It's about recruiting connections, not X's and O's.

However, with the strong in-state high school DI contingency, is that as true with lacrosse as other sports?

If you can't connect with NJ, VA, PA, NY, MD, CT, CAN... your LAX program will never rise above mediocre. A Colorado All-Star team would get rolled by a good NJ high school team that was outside the state rankings.

So even though Colorado has a large number of D1 signees, they aren't sufficiently strong enough as a group? I honestly don't know the answer.

Not at all. As Nik said, a mediocre NJ team would roll the best players in CO. It's kind of like football. If you put the best Colorado prep players on a team and played a average to good Georgia or Texas team they would get steamrolled.

I actually grinned when I read JRK's post.

Still find it weird we are taking commitments without a coach in place.

If you want to be successful in lacrosse, you must recruit public schools on Long Island and private schools from Maryland. That's how it works.

My old high school churns out lacrosse recruits every year, including to UVA and UNC. Would love to have a few become Buffs

My guess is that tradition and history don't play as big of a role for recruits in women's lacrosse as they do in football. For an out of state student, just getting a free ride to one of coolest campus settings in the country is a pretty big deal.
