Spangler was an under-the-radar quarterback prospect that was getting some looks for football. But he has decided that basketball is his future. It doesn't look like he got any scholarship offers from football, but he got looks from schools such as OU.

Scout had an article back in the beginning of June: http://recruiting.scout.com/2/974852.html

Ryan Spangler, a 6-foot-8, 215-pound quarterback from Bridge Creek High in Okla., threw for over threw for over 3,000 yards and 33 scores as a junior in 2009.

Additionally, he is also one of the finest basketball players in the state. He plays for the AAU team Athletes First out of Oklahoma City and his skills have been described as the “real deal” from those scouts that have seen him play so far this spring.

New Rivals article makes it sound like our big competition is from Gonzaga.

We're getting an official visit from Spangler on September 18th. He's visiting the Zags on the 25th.

Here's part of the Rivals article: http://colorado.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1119765

"Colorado has said they like that they like the way I rebound and the fact that I am always around the ball," he said. "Rebounding just comes naturally to me. And while most big men have trouble running the floor, I do that well, so that helps me a whole lot."

Spangler averaged 26.8 points, 18 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game as a junior.

New Scout article confirms the visit and that we are in Spangler's final four with Gonzaga, TCU and Tulsa.

http://colorado.scout.com/2/1000055.html:

Spangler said he enjoys snow skiing and has taken a few family vacations to the Rockies to ski at some of Colorado’s famous slopes.

Talking with head coach Tad Boyle and assistant Mike Rohn at least once a week has shown Spangler some other benefits of Colorado.

“They are going to the Pac-10, a good conference,” Spangler said. “They like to run the ball like I do.”

damn I want us to get this kid bad. 18 RPG is insane, even in high school

No word yet on his visit.

He's at Gonzaga next week and then at TCU.

Keep your fingers crossed.

I really hope Gonzaga doesn't wow him, they are a damn good program that is established and have a great coach.

Guess he was homesick. Gonzaga versus Oklahoma must have been some culture shock. Food, weather, west coast attitudes, etc.

Is Spokane really that big of a difference? Eastern Washington is a dry-ish agricultural region; additionally, I always got the feeling there was a big cultural gap between EW and the coast.

I guess we'll find out what it's like there and if folks out that way don't take kindly to Pac-12 types when the crew hits Pullman for the road trip this season.
