Looking at Jon Wilner's article this is not looking good. Sounds like we may not get the local station at all based on the Direct TV CEo's previous comments, here in Denver that means internet at 1/4th the speed of comcast and no pac-12 network for most of us.

Anyone else as serious as i am getting about dropping Direct TV, or got any back up ideas?

Yes. Especially since my 2 year deal is up in about a month, & I'm sick of not being able to watch comedy central the last couple of weeks.

My backup is to go back to Comcast, which sucks, since I switched to direct tv because I'd had enough of Comcast.

I shudder at the thought of having Comcast.

Funny. Right after I typed this, I read an email from direct tv that they reached a deal with Viacom. Hopefully this opens the door to working out a PAC 12 channel deal.

According to an article in today's Denver Post, Direct TV, Dish, and AT&T are all in negotiations with the P-12 to carry their network. As they say, It's all about the $$$$

I hope they can pull it together. I had a crapton of B1G games on dish last year, what's a few more channels in the 400s to them if I can watch CU vs Sac state. I wasn't going to watch purdue play new Hampshire A&I that Saturday anyway.

This. DTV and the Pac network will come to an agreement.

I would hope DTV is aware of how many subscribers would be impacted by not carrying the Pac.

Sports fans and more specifically college football/basketball fans are extremely loyal to thier teams and alma maters.

I'm sure they're aware of how many subscribers this would cost them, and that's why I have very little doubt that a deal will get done. Also, the Pac doesn't want their network to not end up on a major provider like DTV, so they'll get it done.

If I'm reading what Wilner wrote correctly, there's more to this than DTV signing on. To get the internet access you have to have broadband AND cable providers that are under contract with the P12. I don't know how many people are like me and have DTV bundled with Century Link for broadband(I assume a lot, since that's who bundles DTV in Colorado), but as I understand it even if DTV signs on I won't be able to access the online content unless Century Link gets on board as well. That sucks.

That is how I read the article as well, the risk of no internet streaming combined the with 9mbs for CL Internet at my house vs 40mbps from Comcast is giving me pause. I called CL about it yesterday but they couldnt answer me clearly on how they plan to participate/enable pac-12 coverage.

My reading of this is that DirecTV is the broadcast partner in your scenario. I.E., if you have broadband, you have to prove you have a subscription to DirectV at the tier that carries the PAC12 network.

I had Dish. I now have DTV. Not sure how Dish is now, but, at the time, DTV was a huge upgrade. I could see playing the "if you don't pick up the PAC, I'll drop you" card. But that would be an idle threat. I would suggest sending a letter or email though.

This is my email message I sent them:

"I understand the dynamics of how contracts work in your business. I hope you and the PAC come to an agreement. My subscription with you is highly sports based. I am a season ticket holder with the University of Colorado. Being able to follow CU on television is a high priority for me. If DTV does not carry the PAC12 network and another provider does, I will certainly consider changing providers. As you are aware, I am a LONG time DTV subscriber, love DTV and do not want to change. But I will if you do not pick up the PAC12 network. Thanks."

There is a chance something would be announced at the media days next week. The next window would be on aug 15th when they start broadcasting. The 15th is when I'm going to start thinking about it and looking into alternatives, I had no expectation we'd hear anything before the media days at best.

Also, note Wilner updated himself, you only need the video provider to be a partner to get internet access to p12net, not your internet provider.

I think there is a chance that the online p12net will stream via new-ish panasonic tvs and blu rays. They've got a tie in to the pac12's technology platform provider. that would be cool and convenient, just like using netflix. I wonder if they'd get all that together the first year or if that happens in a future year (and tv /blu ray models).

I would have CL for Internet, but they only offer up to 1 mb connection in my neighborhood (not kidding). This is in the heavily populated suburbs of Denver. What a joke.

I'm worried about getting Husky games out of state.

Money is no object to see the 'Dawgs play, but living in Colorado I want the national, regional (mountain) and Husky channels.

It's sounds like I won't be able to get all three. And I need the regional since we live here... I don't know if the "gurus" figured that married folk may come from two different fan bases in different regions of the Pac...

I hope Larry Scott is smart enough to allow people to buy an online all-Pac pass (worst case scenario) that will let any viewer anywhere access all channels despite who their TV or internet carrier is...

I would gladly pay $100 yearly or more for even the online streaming....

Living out of state sounds like it will mean I'll get the local (non-Husky) broadcasts with the national feed.

If any provider allows me to get the regional mountain, national and Husky channels I'll subscribe in a heartbeat. I'll probably have to quit DirecTV despite over 13 years of service...

What hurts most is that this won't be finalized until (probably) after the first games of the year. I'm going to be mad if I can't watch the Husky season opener game (SDSU)...

Would it be so hard to have an all-Pac streaming pass despite your local carrier for TV or internet? Price it at $9.99 monthly, or even $19.99 monthly.... or better yet $99.99 yearly or whatever.

It would be sad to see the Pac network be hamstrung with the inability of a fan to see their games if they live in a location outside of their current regional networks.... Can you imagine all of the CU fans in L.A. being stuck with the national feed and local SoCal schools without an option of paying to see CU sports?

This better end well...

I have Dish and have been inundating them with emails. I am in Iowa and the local cable company will not be carrying the Pac 12 network.

So just running through this because i'm coming near DDD w/ Direct TV, is there any cable provider which will have all the pac 12 channels on it? Comcast or Clear Channel? Whomever does most-likely will have my business. I don't care for TV outside of sports, preferably college sports/NFL during the fall. I'd like the Pac 12 Network and would enjoy seeing the Washington/Bay area networks as well along the Mountain station and the national station.

I'm with you on this. I'll gladly go to any provider that gives access to all the channels. Reading between the lines it appears there are no plans for anyone to provide all of the content, and you will have no way to get all of the content even if you desire to do so...

It's utterly stupid if they can't find a way around this and won't even allow internet streams to be offered everywhere...

Like us east coasters...... We want every channel! We want every game! I know that Scott said every game will be televised so I am not all that worried.....

I have Comcast here so iit looks like I will be giving back the dish....

Got an email reply from DTV:

So, are there any hints in there?

I stopped into Sams Club on the way home from work. When the DTV guy approached me, I asked him when DTV was going to get the PAC network, and that I would cancel and switch to Comcast if it wasn't carried. The first thing out of his mouth was, "Im a CU fan like you and also a graduate" He then told me that we would be getting the PAC 12 network as part of the regional sports package. I'll believe it when it happens.
