I enjoy watching women's soccer more than watching men's soccer. Probably because the US women's team is among the favorites to win the World Cup every time. And also because a lot of the women soccer players are nice to look at.

I think women soccer players are more men than men. They seem to flop a lot less.

I ignore women´s soccer in general and men´s soccer at the Olympics is completely pointless and a waste of time as players are missing time with their clubs, but then it´s only a U23 competition with 3 overage players anyway whereas the women take their full national team squads.

Thinking back to high school, there's something to be said for that. The tough girls played soccer. The tough boys, not so much.

Women soccer players and men soccer players often share one thing in common, they both mostly are attracted to women.

Every time the World Cup comes around, I say I'm going to watch it. And every year I turn it off 20 min into it off after the 50th dude falls down and grabs his knee after someone came within a foot of him. It's like watching a Miami Heat game except the final score is 1-0.

1-0 France by Thiney

Poor effort by Solo there. Really poor.

2-0 - comedy defending

2-1 Wambach - poorly defended corner

North Korea is refusing to play against Colombia because the organizers put the South Korean instead of the North Korean flag on the scoreboard.

I'm watching this England Senegal match and was surprised to find out that a goal that England just scored was the first one they've scored in the olympics since 1960. I always thought that the one sport that they were really good at was soccer. But I guess I was wrong.

england has made the olympics... great britian hasnt played unified since 1960... meaning wales scotland and northern ireland on the same team with England

Just wondering - but was that to be inclusive to Scotland, Wales and Ireland for host country status and a one time thing? Will they be broken back out into the individual nations for future summer games when GB is not hosting? Does this apply to all sports or just soccer?

Scottish, English, Welsh and Northern Irish athletes have always competed under the Union Jack at the Olympics as neither is an independent country. The fact the Welsh, Northern Irish, Scottish and English FAs are able to field their own independent football teams is illogical and basically a favor to the home nations. Ukraine, Croatia, Slovenia etc. were only allowed to field their own football teams after those countries gained independence, before that their players played for the Soviet Union or Yugoslavia.

Changing this is pretty much impossible as this would have to go thru the IFAB. The IFAB (International Football Association Board) is made up of 8 members. 4 of those are appointed by FIFA, the other 4 are representatives of the Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish and English FAs. In order for there to be a change, you need 6 of 8 votes and they´d never vote to kill off themselves.

The united football team thing was and is highly political although Stuart Pearce was allowed to pick players from all home nations, however, 11 of the 16 players in the squad do play for England.

Football at the Olympics is pretty much unimportant as the men only field under 23 squads with 3 overage players. Germany, for example, hasn´t qualified since 1988 and qualification is usually done thru the U21 European Championships.

Is this just an effort to make their team better?

It´s political more than anything. Guess why they´re playing games at Hampden Park in Glasgow and at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

2 Scottish women for Team GB declined to sing God Save The Queen before their game yesterday.
