Phelps loses the gold in his signature event (200 butterfly) on the last meter.

Somewhat ironic that Phelps loses the gold by an inch here in London in both events he won by an inch in Beijing.

Also shows just how tough it is to win an event in 3 straight Olympics.

Missy Franklin also missed her 2nd medal by the closest of margins in the 200 free, 0.01 secs.

Phelps´ first loss in the 200 butterfly in World and Olympic competition since 2003.

Phelps performance in Beijing probably gave us super unrealistic expectations for London. He had the perfect meet, the likes of will probably never be matched unless they add more events to make swimming last the full two weeks.

The whole swimming events here are a bit of a letdown as you have no super human performances and WRs in every race, although it should be noted that they´ve prohibitted the use of the high tech suits since 2008, so that might play a role also.

That roided up chinese chick's performance was pretty super human.

Also think there is probably some credance to all the rumblings and fellow teammates comments about their lack of respect for him since he doesn't work as hard given his talent....if true, I'm kind of glad he isn't winning and serves him right

Phelps just won his 19th Olympic medal. Gold in the 4x200 freestyle

15 gold 2 silver 2 bronze

Just watched the 200 fly race.

The decision weather or not to take the extra stroke at the wall is a tough one, and I've seen so many races won/lost there. Mirror image of the 100 fly race in Beijing.

That was tough. Plus he missed every frigging turn. Otherwise he wins easily.
