Volleyball: CU Buffs' Kerra Schroeder out for season

Absolutely not the news we wanted to hear.

One of only 2 seniors, Kerra tore both an ACL and MCL. She'll redshirt and come back next season.

Karma to Kerra.

While the Buffs swept Cornell, the loss of Kerra really hurt them in the other two tournament matches.

This is a very tough loss for the team. Losing a team leader really hurts while trying to improve their record vs the PAC12.

I hope this squad can somehow get to my preseason hope of a .500 year. Gonna be especially tough now.

And...

Welcome to the board! We need more people here engaged in CU sports outside of football and MBB.

Thanks. I have always enjoyed volleyball.

I just read an article in the Denver Post about a top high school player in Colorado Springs. Does anyone know if the coach has any contact with this player? Hate to see top players in our own backyard go play somewhere else.

Well, the top player from Colorado for 2013 has verbaled to UCLA. The top player from Colorado in 2012 is at Texas. There is an attraction to being the national champion or a perrenial top contender. CU will have to start on the road back to where they used to be before they can hope to regularly get the top players. The CU coaches did great with the 2012 freshman class; they have 2 good but not great (in the Senior Aces "next 150") verbals from Cali players for 2013. If Kerra comes back and can play at least close to how she did pre-injury combined with this years young players having a year of experience, they should start up that road by next year.

As for Haleigh. I'd love to see her at CU. We know she has offers from schools that have been national champions but since she has not verbaled anywhere yet I will maintain some hope for us.

If not Colorado, why not Hawaii! Trade the mountains for the ocean and one of the most consistent programs in NCAA.
