Re: '13 WA Wing Haley Smith (WBB) (Verbal to Colorado)

Wow that is awesome. Welcome

First off, everyone needs to rep MObuff for bringing Haley to our attention. Unfortunately, a shiny object distracted me and I never followed up on it, so I'm just now getting this up.

If you read Smith's write-up on HoopGurlz, you can't help but be excited. She sounds like a combo guard who can run the point and is great at pushing the ball in transition. She needs to work on her defense a little bit (specifically her zone D), but apparently her length & athleticism make her perfect at the top of a 1-2-2 or 1-3-1 zone.

Finding anything else on her is a little tricky right now. I'll see what I can dig up, but apparently there's a basketball league called "Haley Smith Basketball" which obviously makes things hard to Google.

Here's some other stuff I found on her:

On HoopGurlz, she appears to be the highest ranked and only 4 star player from Washington in the class of 2013.
Both MaxPreps and her club team roster list her as 6'1"
Academics should not be a concern since she is a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist.
Curious .... her high school stats went down from Soph to Junior ... Soph 7.3 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.5 apg Jr 6.5 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.8 apg

Hoopgurlz:

Haley Smith to Colorado: Smith, a 6-0 swing player, had a dynamite spring and a solid summer with Tree of Hope. She is the Buffs first commit in the 2013 class and complements 2012 signees Jamee Swan and Lauren Huggins, giving CU length and versatility to use at the two through four positions.

One note - that profile pic is from her sophomore year. She's going to be stronger-looking by the time she gets here.

Thanks for the article. She sounds like she is going to be a great Buff. Welcome Haley.
