Quote from today. It´s fairly obvious who he is talking about and hardly shocking.

I know. Choosing between Johnson and Romney is tough. Could not resist. This is not a real shock. I've got mixed feelings. I believe in standing on my word. But this is the 21st Century.

Since we are apparently stuck with Embree and Co., it is vital we show some serious improvement on the field these last five games. A win or two would help, but if we can at least be competitive, maybe we can hold on to some guys or even convince one or two skill players to roll the dice.

Whose word?

What if the coaches recruiting these players over the summer said that we would have announced facility upgrades by now, and that the team would have shown real progress?

Maybe the staff broke their word.

I'm not saying that's the case. But I think this is a lot more complicated than a young man saying he'd do something and then changing his mind.

Don't know why Parsons would want to leave? TE as head coach...Kasa likely draft pick. Just cuz you go to a good school doesn't mean you'll get drafted. It usually means you have to compete with other 4-5* for playing time. Much more likely to make the pros with us than schools like USC.

Players with options don't want to come to a team where the average margin of defeat is 30. Don't blame anyone for looking at options.

I don't know that you can say, yet, that they are not following through with the upgrades.

Just not correct.

Kasa isn't getting drafted.

Too early to say if he is or not but he was named to the Watch list, so he is already on the national radar. He has hd some good games and if he continues to grow into the role he could definitely be drafted.

As Absinthe said, Kasa's physical traits are damn impressive so he would do well in the combine. I am betting that if he has a decent to good rest of this season he will be a late draft pick. TEs with his physical attributes are in big time demand in the NFL.

Hard to predict the draft with a guy like Kasa but he has the measurables to make people take notice. He has also made some huge plays already this year. The way he has played in his first year as a TE in college has a good chance to catch some teams attention. It becomes the same old story. Would you rather draft a guy who has more limited physical ability but more experience or take a chance on a guy who hasn't shown as much but who has a much higher ceiling.

Recent history with guys like Gronkowski in NE being a huge factor on the offense and a guy like Antonio Gates who had very little background at TE and still became an all-pro could give Kasa a big boost.

My feeling is that Parsons is torn. He wants to be a Buff, he wants to stay close to home, and he wants to be a part of a building program. At the same time he is seeing the Buffs getting blown off the field game after game and having coaches from other schools tell him that at CU he is likely to be staying home during bowl season and that he will be getting a new coaching staff eventually after some additional failure.

Makes for a very difficult decision for a teenager.

I have a question. How do the guys on the team take someone reneging on his commitment? Do they understand or get a little upset? Do they take it personally? I'd imagine it runs the gamut.

Parsons d-committed... who can blame him??? Hope they don't all start jumping ship

Hate to oversimplify but win the first three games of the year against teams that the Buffs should have beaten and this isn't an issue, to the contrary we are likely complaining that we accepted commitments from guys who weren't as good as we could have gotten.

Okay, I've thought about this exchange more, and I've decided it pisses me off.

1. You were more than willing to insinuate that our commit had gone back on his word. Annoyingly, you also suggested that it was a generational thing--as if it never happened before the 21st Century, and somehow integrity has fundamentally changed.

2. I stated that with the information we had, it would be difficult to determine who had violated their word, citing facilities and the quality of the football team and qualifying it with "what if".

3. You respnded by saying we don't know about the facility upgrades yet. I agree.

But why are you willing to make assumptions about a 17 year old recruit, if we don't know enough? That was my point. You defaulted in a certain direction without sufficient evidence, and I don't think that's fair.

Some of our recruits from last year stated that they were told about facility upgrades. That was our 2012 class. Do we think that the coaching staff may have just abandoned that apporach? Maybe. But if they haven't, and I was a recruit that was told they were coming, and I watched this slide month, after month with promises to unveil a plan, only to delay time and time again, I wouldn't find our University particularly credible.

What if (QUALIFIED!) our staff told our recruits that they strongly believed that we would make it to a bowl game this year, and then guaranteed them that we would at least be competitive in all games? I don't know if that happened or not, but it wouldn't surprise me.

If those were the circumstances (and I don't believe any of us know), then I wouldn't blame a recruit for decommitting, and I wouldn't view it as an integrity violation. But we don't know. Therefore, I think it's unfair to make an insinuation that a recruit broke his promise.

/rant.

Calm down grasshopper. I did say, in another post, that buyer's remorse is understandable given the way the season is going. To me, you do not make a commitment unless you are 100% sure no matter how the season goes. What this tells me is that he has lost faith in the coaching staff and his potential future teamates.

Sooooo...no retraction of questioning a young man's integrity with insufficient evidence?

I believe that giving your word is important.

I don't like the way that in recruiting I hear a lot of kids say that they gave a verbal to reserve their spot with their current leader... when it's clear they are still listening to other offers and shopping around.

Likewise, I don't like how so many coaches accept a verbal from a kid they plan on cutting loose if they can get a commitment from someone they rate higher.

I think that a big solution to this would be to have an early signing period for football. If a kid and the coaches are truly sure, let them get it done in the spring with OVs able to be taken during spring practices.

It's a risk-reward thing. Player could get injured his senior year, but still have that scholarship. Coaches could have a bad season or get fired, but the school would still have players signed.
