So now what happens to recruits with Embree being fired?

Wondering what happens now to verbally committed recruits with JE being fired? Does CU feel a responsibility to continue to honor these commitments? Will anyone contact the 2013 recruits to say anything - who would do it and what will they say? Do they wait until a new HC is in place?

I'd love if the new hire kept Tui and Kanavis to anchor the west coast and Texas respectively as they are two of the strongest recruiters of the most recent staff and have a young D-line to continue to mentor. Could do a barnstorming of their territories and convince the most needed recruits there to keep their verbals.

Ultimately, that is up to the new coach. I expect that once a staff is in place, then the new coach will talk immediately with the currently committed recruits to tell them if their offer is still valid or not.

Frankly, if we hire a good competent staff that can recruit, I doubt this transition class ends up being much (if any) worse off than this year's Embree class which was falling apart and destined for a distant last in the Pac-12.

I presume you mean different in a good way?

I think so.

The new coach is going to have to hard decisions to make on numbers. Embree was talking 17-19 signees for February, wonder if the new coach might scale that back a bit.

Certainly changes everything for the 2013 class and beyond. New offensive philosophy, new defensive philosophy, new coaches. We may have some defections which could open up more schollies too, although if we get a good one I doubt too many will actually leave.

I do hope we can keep a few of the commits we have like Sefo and that we honour our grey shirts either way.

Everything is up in the air.

I would expect that all of the grayshirts from the 2012 class (Kough, Thomas, Jagne, McCartney, Williams) will be honored. It would be highly unusual for a coach to cut grayshirts loose.

Other than that, I expect ever commitment to be a very fluid situation.

Usually some coaches will be retained on an interim basis to keep things stable - usually with the promise that a good word will be put in with the new HC. Recruits can not be promised anything at this point in time. If you remember when Embree came in he rescinded some offers the previous recruits had been made.

It would be pretty messed up for a coach to come I here and cut the kids who have stayed committed to CU during this terrible season.

I think we're all hypocrites if we cut committed kids. On one hand we say

Parsons isn't a "True Buff" and wasn't really committed for looking at other programs.
And then others say you commit to CU not to a coaching staff. But, when the coaching staff changes its ok to drop those kids like a sack of bricks.

fixed

We should honor all kids who have stayed committed and all the Grey Shirts. Then look at the numbers from there and decide who else to recruit.

That's the coaches decision and I doubt he's going to keep everyone, I surely hope not for this classes sake.

We have just read the last statements posted n it looks as if khavoc is standing on a landmine . If it is not guarentd that the new coach may not honor his greyshirts, then there is a big possibility that he will not come at all.....k jagne wants to play for the buffs but if there is no assurances, must move on. Right now there is no coach n if no one is going to assure him...he must play someplace else...will inform him immediatel...thanks for the tip.....this is not looking good...

CU historically have honored grey shirts that do what is required by the University. We are not a SEC school that drop players for no reason.

But there are no guarentees n with that .......a PLAN must be put in place to protect this student athlete n this is what TKO does. He jas been chomping at the bit to play but he is a young man that has to understand its a buisiness a he maybe a casuaty of ear in this thing

Recommend you have him contact Mike Bohn (or someone on the staff) to get the real info. Don't make any decisions on hearsay from a fan site.

TK I dont think you should take what people say in this thread too seriously. The people commenting have no idea what will happen, if there is a plan, etc; they are simply voicing an opinion. My opinion is that the new coach will honor grey shirts; but you should contact the AD with questions about this stuff to get some real info.

I think Kisma is a special athlete and any coach is going to bend over backwards to make sure he gets on the team, just like the previous staff did.

I'd recommend that you get in contact with someone within the athletic department, or even the athletic director himself before making any moves. They can give you a much better feel for what is going on. I strongly suspect that K will be welcomed here with open arms no matter who is brought in.

You are correct, do everything to protect the student. A new coach will be hired soon. The new coach will move fast to secure the current recruiting class. He will make assurances at that time. Kisima is a very good player, CU needs players like Kisima.

It is so late in the game I can't see the kids you are looking at releasing being worse than who you bring in. Unless it is a system thing I bet we keep almost everyone if not everyone currently.

I am actually more worried about losing some of the kids who have been committed and not being able to replace them with comparable players.

Didn't even read page 2 before I replied to CUBuffs12. KJ please stick with the buffs. The Pac 12 is a great place to play. Colorado is beautiful. Your next set of coaches are going to get 100 percent out of you and give you a chance to rush the passer on the next level.

TK, I also suggest that you contact Mike Bohn directly. He has stated that he wants current Buffs (which we consider Kisima to be) involved in the process of selecting the new coach. Once the new coach gets here, he will undoubtedly meet individually with all players. CU has historically honored grayshirts in this scenario.

Greyshirts are almost always honored since they gave up a season of play already most coaches don't cut them loose.

I would expect the new staff would honor all of the greyshirts. As others have said, I'd recommend contacting the AD office to get the specifics.

Kisima is a special talent, and we need him on this team. Go Buffs!

Late joining the conversation and while I agree that the grayshirts should be honored, the new coach needs some freedom to mold the 2013 class. If you make him keep every committed kid in the class, it is going to make it awfully hard for the new coach to work the numbers how he sees fit.

It is harsh, but it is reality.

Like I said earlier. There isn't much else out there at this point to even attempt to swap out players. I can only see this happening if we hire a coach from another program who attempts to bring some of his kids with to CU. If we go to a smaller school coach are his recruits really going to be better than CU's currently. Not likely.

You honor the grayshirts. As mentioned earlier they have already sat out and waited for you so have some significant investment in the program. Kisima is a must, he is the kind of guy that could be a cornerstone and I seriously doubt that a new staff would find a better guy to take his place in the time available.

The current commits each need to be addressed on an individual basis but with a respect for the fact that they have stuck with the program. Some I really want, guys like Sefu. Others are likely not going to be a good fit but the coaches should give them the means to make it appear as if they made the decision and weren't just dumped. Ultimately the decision has to be made by the new staff but you don't want to burn recruiting bridges in the process, after what Hawk did we don't have a lot of those bridges standing as it is.
