Biggest Recruiting Wants for '14

I know it's early and under the radar kids always pop up during the summer etc. But with the current information of '14 prospects we are recruiting, I am curious of what everyone's biggest wants are. I know what mine are and I will share them below with reasons why. After this year, we are set to lose SHT, Jeremy Adams, Ben Mills (if he doesn't transfer out after this year) and possibly Spencer Dinwiddie (early to the NBA draft). That's two 6'11+ bigs (tend to be non-factors during games anyways), a 6'5 SF and 6'6 PG/SG. There is also talk of Scott leaving after his second year, if he really has a great sophomore season, so I will add a fifth prospect just if that scenario takes place too. I would like to land two 6'9+ athletic PF/C's and a big SF with the addition of a legitimate PG. My vote for prospects are:

1) Malik Pope: the tall (supposedly 6'9) athletic SF with great ball handling skills
2) Evan Fitzner: 6'10 center that seems to move pretty well from all reports
3) Josh Perkins: 6'2 PG, seems to run a true point guard position (also supposedly put up 40 the other night)
4) Reid Travis: 6'9 PF with great athleticism, to add to our front court

and if Scott leaves,
5) Dominique Collier: a great SG from Colorado

Thoughts??

Collier & Perkins are #1 & 2 on my list. Positions be damned, if you have a top 50 kid in your state -- and your state only produces one of those every DECADE -- you have to lock that up. Getting at least one of those is necessary. Striking out on both is a failure -- period.

That said, I guarantee that 2014 has at least one big in it. Honestly though, I don't know if it'll have more than that. It's pretty obvious that Tad's looking to run with a lineup that has 1 big in it, 1 hybrid forward (Dre/XJ/Thomas) and 3 guards. I think that's part of the reason that Gordon is RSing this year as well, so we have a little more balance and more time with him once Scott leaves.

I've heard good things about the bigs you listed. Also keep an eye on Jack Williams. He and a PG prospect (Casey Benson) all play on the same AAU team as Fitzner.

1. Josh Perkins/Dom Collier. Honestly, can't say that I prefer one over the other particularly. But do think that we need to keep local kids in state. Longshot to keep both, but can dream. But priority #1 is getting one of them to commit imo

2. Stanley Johnson F. Mater Dei kid, so I'm hoping the Xavier Johnson/Eli Stalzer connection helps us here. A lot of people think he'll end up in Kentucky supposedly

3. Chris Sandifer SG. We offered him first, and has a big interest still in us. I think he'd be a good compliment to either Perkins or Collier

4. Jack Williams PF/Tyre Robinson PF. Williams high on us, and would be another west coast kid. Supposedly a great rebounder.

5. Zach Braxton C. Local prospect. Need size down the line, and this is someone that can definitely improve his stock over the next two years. More a name to look out for and see how he progresses

I do think that if the team continues to have success, we might become players for recruits we wouldn't normally be. Adding a big would be awesome but there's a very, very, very short list of bigs every recruiting cycle and they're very hard to get. We're probably looking at a 2-3 player class though, so will have to be selective with who we bring in

Perkins and Collier gotta get them both.

Would like to see us add more size as well

This. And as much as I like Perkins, right now I think I'd lean toward Collier, but it's really close. With the talent level improving, I'd like to see a distributor at the point and feel like Collier gets the edge there. Based on pure talent though, it's probably Perkins.

Probably true both would be a coup though.

Why do you guys think getting both would be a coup? As far as I know (NOT an insider) but we've been in good communication with them. I believe they both like CU. Chauncey's influence on Collier can't hurt, although I'm not sure how much it will push him to Boulder.

I agree with Goose - you go HARD after top talent in the state when they're of the caliber of these two. We definitely need a big in the class of '14, but Stanley Johnson is not going to come here. He just isn't...we're never mentioned in his recruiting. He is not going to Boulder.

Wait. Didn't thorburn say we are screwed because of racism in the AD office? Tad is moving on...

i hate the Denver press.

It'd be a coup because they're both top 60 recruits that have constantly been compared to each other. They both seem to like CU, but they probably want to do their own thing as well. There's always the chance that they both don't want to play anywhere but CU, and create something special... but I'd be hella excited to just get one. There's a lot of big time programs that could come calling for both of them. For CU to beat out teams like KU... for even one to ultimately tell Bill Self, "no thanks" would be saying an awful lot about where this program is heading

I agree that Stanley Johnson is a long shot, but we did make his initial cut at least

It also strikes me that Boyle likes to have some length among the guards as well. I'm curious to see how the minutes play out if Jenkins and Hopkins both pan out AND we land Collier and Perkins. Would be a damn good problem to have.
