Should we take two QBs in 2014?

A seemingly ridiculous question that may need to be answered by the coaches after spring ball.

If you can find two highly regarded QBs then yes, but to just fill a number then no. I would be happy seeing one 4 star.

Unless we see some serious attrition at the position no

QB is your most important position by a landslide. You can't let previous whiffs and wasted roster spots change your decision. If the coaches feel that we are significantly talent short at QB, and the opportunity presents itself to take 2 high quality QBs, then do it.

At this point, why not take as many as you can get and hope one is worth the scholly? Semi-serious.

I understand that but we already have six QB's on scholarship. We already have too many on scholarship, let alone adding two more.

This. You don't pass on talent due to numbers. Especially at the most important position on the field. I am just praying we finally have a staff that can properly evaluate high school QBs.

Two is too many. Go after difference makers. As soon as we get one, stop. While QB is the most important position, it's also the position that has the least number of shared snaps. The starter, assuming he's healthy, will take 90% or more of the offensive snaps. The guy who is 4th on the depth chart won't see a single play all year long. Any scholarships beyond that are wasted, IMO.

It's still a numbers game with only so many scholarships to go around. Which positions are you willing to sacrifice depth to take on 2 more QBs? If the staff has determined we got nothing at QB on the current roster, then take 2. If you find real difference makers who can contribute now, them take 2. Or if 2-3 of the current scholarship QBs go elsewhere (please, please) then take 2. Don't take 2 just to add numbers in the hopes one will emerge from the group.

Not unless there will be several leaving the program or moving to new positions and actually contributing. The numbers just do not add up and Embo really furked the team with his grasping at straws in this area. We will see but if Dillon and Sefo are not difference makers, this will be a long process for MikeMac

We have six QBs on scholarship. We know Webb will not be back in 2014. Add in realistic moves by Wood/Dorman to other positions or to another program and that brings it down to three. Two QBs in 2014 would not be such a wild thought at that point.

If the above happens, I am in favor of bring on two QBs under two conditions:

1. If they are both high school players, they should have different skill sets. One dual threat and one more traditional drop-back passer is the easiest scenario.

2. If the coaching staff decides to target a JUCO quarterback, he ideally should be a December graduate.

If our QB is good enough we can get rid of our punter and kicker.

I would take only dual threat QBs at this point. I see a running QB as the fastest way out of the cellar for this team.

Of course 2. Just because we have a bunch of QBs doesn't mean we should stand pat. Other than Dillon and Liufau, we have nothing worth keeping. Mac will move a couple to other positions which will likely result in them transferring. Webb is gone after this year and then we're down to Dillon, Liufau, Hirschman, and probably Schrock? Not sure we should even really count Shrock.

Get 2 guys. One prototype QB and one dual threat athlete type. Or we just get two guys that are athletic. Mahalak, Aaron Sharp, Jalen Greene, Manny Wilkins, etc. Plenty of options on the athletic QB front this cycle. Then there's always my boy Drew Doxtator..

Pretty much all been said. I don't care if we have 22 QBs on scholarship, we need solid ones that can develop. Dillon has some big steps to take and there's no reasonable expectation that Sefo plays his True Frosh year.

Our completion percentage is alarming. Wood and Dorman got a lot of snaps last Friday (I am taking that as they are on the "cut line") and I'd expect one or both to be gone come summer (if not to another position, which I just don't see happening).

I'm holding out for the SJSU QB to graduate early and be here in August.

Take 1 freshman.

I'd be all for a JUCO or mid-year transfer to go with that if he had immediate eligibility, though.
