CU-Boulder considering adding two new Colleges/Schools

I think this would be an excellent idea considering CU already offers very few majors. The College/Schools in consideration are "sustainable environment" and "media, communication, and information."
Provost Russell Moore: I am proposing that we create both a college or school devoted to the study of the sustainable environment and a college or school that will focus on media, communication and information.

We have engaged in lengthy formal conversations about these possible new colleges, and our informal conversations have gone on even longer.

Now is the time to act to make it clear that the CU-Boulder will lead the way forward in two of the most important arenas of higher education and research, areas that will enable us to contribute to solving major problems facing our state, the nation and the world.

Uh, CU's already had a college dedicated to the study of media, communication and information. It was called the ****ing College of JOURNALISM which those dumbshits got rid of TWO YEARS AGO!

Love it when things come full circle. Dumbasses.

it's actually even dumber than that.....in the late 90's many of the former SJMC faculty tried to partner with the COMM department along with the Telecom peeps....and form (you guessed it!)....a College of Communication. the admins had no part of it....shut it down. the idea sort of became ATLAS, btw. which the university threw a lot of money at....without any clear idea what to do with it.

now we come 180 degrees. hooray!

so it goes.

Don't be ****tin' me here - I'm about 3 clicks away from signing up for Portland State's Certificate in Microbrewery Business Management. Hate to think I might be sending $$$ the lambs' way.

I'm joking about them pimp part but Google fermentation and CSU. I know there are several programs out there (Cal Davis maybe). But you might want to rethink. Brewers make like $20 an hour. If you start your own brewery you are not going to be making beer all day, you are going to sell beer all day.

Oh, I'm well aware of that in having watched the owner of my favorite local microbrewery up here move from a rented garage to his new location in downtown Poulsbo with plans to expand further.

He's now actively marketing damn near 24/7 as he has a couple of guys who do most of the day to day brewing.

Pretty crowded space amongst peers when there is a Walter Cronkite, Edward Murrow, and Wallace Annenberg in the group. Just going through these P12 sites, Stanford brings in the contacts: "The John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships Program brings outstanding journalists and journalism entrepreneurs to the university for an academic year. While here, they develop their proposals for improving journalism through innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation sponsors twelve U.S. journalists. They are joined by eight International Fellows sponsored by the Lyle and Corrine Nelson International Fellowship Fund, the Knight Foundation, Yahoo! Inc., the Enlight Foundation and others."

Even Oregon State is all over this field of study. It's going to take a lot for cu to stand out. I'm thinking the John Henderson and Rick Reilly school of new media wouldn't quite get us there.
