Connor Center has never played a down of organized football in high school, yet he found himself visiting Syracuse on Wednesday with an offer to join the team later this summer if he decided....

Center said he will visit Colorado on Friday through Sunday and head to Miami (Fla.) Monday through Wednesday. He set no deadline for making a decision on whether to enroll in school this summer or attend Milford Academy in New York and be recruited as a Class of 2014 prospect....

Center, a 6-foot-8, 250-pounder from Clifton Park, played baseball in high school but realized he also had a skillset for football. He put together a recruiting tape of sorts from individual workouts at a local training facility and emailed the tape to coaches from all different levels of football within the last month. Center said he talked with about 100 schools and drew strong interest from about 30, including Syracuse....

Center said the staff viewed him as an offensive tackle or tight end.

It sounds like if he would come here that he would do it much like Alex Lewis did, starting as a blocking tight end and then growing into the OT position. He'd clearly need to redshirt as a freshman since he didn't play high school football. This is about the frame and athleticism. Major project, but obviously a number of BCS programs were impressed by the film he put together and are after him. As everyone knows, we need OT depth.

(P.S. Posting this in Barzil so as not to steal Adam's thunder. He posted on the Rivals board and will have an article coming in the next few days, likely following this weekend's visit.)

He lists Cincinnati, Colorado, Miami, Missouri, Nevada, and Syracuse offers on scout

So just got an email from Scout and since this is the Barzil it says that he signed his LOI to play in Boulder starting this fall

:woot: but doesnt that put as back to 86 even after payne and in all likelyhood webb?

We just need 2 sets of twins with the name guard and tackle and we are set.

Sounds like a comedy routine.

Center at Tackle
Garde at the other Tackle
Leift at Right Guard
Reicht at Left Guard and
Takkle at the Center.

Add Luce at Tight End, Walker at Running Back, Halfe at Quarter Back and Giving at Reciever. You can count on Bench for your other starter.

Good to have him on board.

Fits in with the direction that M2 is taking with this team. Looks like a guy who is going to take some development but has a very high ceiling instead of taking guys who might help right away but are limited in their potential. Films show him working at TE which he obviously won't be at the college level but it does show a level of athleticism and flexibility that will serve him well with his frame size.

Also states that he is already graduated from HS and wants to be for spring semester. I have always believed that getting in for spring ball before the true Fr. year makes a huge difference in a players development.

Rivals reporting he will be enrolled for the second summer session in a couple weeks.

Wow just checked out the OL depth chart. We definitely needed some tackles. Center is still at least 3 years away from any meaningful contribution on the OL (assuming he ends up there)

Love it. Another athletic, and undersized tall tackle like Miller. Let him grow into the role of a Pac-12 tackle and see what happens. Gotta love the leverage and athleticism a tall tackle can bring.

Good news, good news!! Welcome!

Relative risks like this can be a good way to turn a program around more quickly - landing talent that we would otherwise struggle to compete for. If he had played football growing up, who knows who'd have landed him on signing day. How the staff develops talent will say a lot about our future, color me hopeful.

"But maybe the biggest question for Syracuse fans is why recruit someone with no experience.

"I don't wanna sound like I'm over confident," Center said, "but to play in college you have to have a certain level of confidence and you have to have a certain skillset, and the coaches that I'm getting recruited by, that's their job to see that.""

Interesting prospect. Well, I like the potential, but you have to assume we won't hear much from him for a few years. Looks like he has the tools, that's for sure.
