Looking like a quality year for Oaks Christian next year. Riggins looks like a solid all around back, good at most things, not great at any one thing.

Greg Biggins has an update with Riggins today. He will be attending a camp in So Cal where our coaches will be helping out (not sure which one).

Haven't seen video of him at camps, but it seems like he gets mentioned a lot as a guy that makes everyone miss and catches the ball really well. I can see the coaches really digging those skills in a RB.

Apparently he doesn't have any offers

D.J. RIGGINS, 2014 RUNNING BACK
RIGGINS100.JPG

As always, D.J. Riggins was unguardable in 1-on-1's. He also appears to have added some bulk to his lean frame. He's super quick and shifty and has above average hands, making him an ideal F-back. He's somebody that UCLA will no doubt continue to recruit, and if it weren't doing well with so many Rivals250 RB prospects right now, he might have an offer even.

Yet another camp he dominates at, but still no P12 offers.. grades maybe?

Per Adam Gorney's Rivals story today getting Pac-12 love from Utah, UCLA, Oregon State and Washington to go with Hawaii ... hoping for more P12 offers.

8. RB D.J. RIGGINS, WESTLAKE VILLAGE (CALIF.) OAKS CHRISTIAN

Riggins is doing everything possible to earn more offers. What else can the three-star running back do except have four touchdowns in a televised game on a Saturday night? The good news for Riggins is that he had a fantastic summer and he has five scores in two games. Coaches are taking notice. UCLA, Utah and many other schools are showing interest. The bad news is that he only has an offer from Hawaii. That could change soon because Riggins has nice speed and a great feel for the game, and he's a huge threat in Oaks Christian's offense.

Alternative theory...

Some players are "practice players" who, for whatever reason, look great in practice and just can't put it together when the real thing comes along. Others are the opposite. But 1-on-1's and a game situation are not necessarily the same thing. Perhaps his game film doesn't look good to coaches? Or perhaps he doesn't look as good playing in the more game-simulation type scrimmages? Or, still thinking here, perhaps he doesn't fit in well with the particular offensive schemes of the teams that have taken a pass? (Similar to how Montae Ball fell in the Bronco depth chart because he isn't as good at pass blocking as Moreno is.)

Kind of hard to really know.

I've got a lot of respect for Greg's evaluations, but each team is looking for their specific thing and recruiting is an inexact science.

I was looking at his stats recently and there very well may be a problem once the pads go on. I think he was averaging about 4.3 yards per carry (not good in HS)

For anyone with a Rivals account,

Riggins to consider options

There was a chance D.J. Riggins would visit Colorado this weekend but that trip is off. Another one could be on for the three-star from Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian.

If he is willing to come and we have spots, why not let him come? Or do they know something that we don't (as in who will probably commit Feb 5?)

Maybe we don't think he's good enough to occupy one of our scholarships for the next 4-5 years?
Maybe he doesn't want to come?
Maybe Adams just flipped Dotson?

Funny thing about recruiting, we only get bits and pieces.
