Chris Sailor (June 8, 2013):

Class Rank: 1
Player Review

Tanner was flat out dominant all weekend in Vegas. It looked as though the more he snapped, the better he got. He is a tremendous athlete, built extremely well and absolutely rips the ball back to the punter. He looks almost blase about the whole process but when the ball comes out...BOOM! He snaps a very tight spiral where the speed is almost fake. Ball picks up speed along the way. Runs like the wind and has a terrific attitude.

Marco Rubio from the May 4/5 Long Snapper elite event in Las Vegas:

Tanner Carew was off the charts all weekend and has taken the top spot in his class. Snaps absolute rockets, built like an athlete and has a tremendous attitude. Tell him what to do and just consider it done. TONS of upside on this already tremendous Long Snapper.

LA Times from May 20th:

Football: Damien's Tanner Carew is top long snapper

If you want to know what a No. 1 long snapper in the nation looks like, head out to La Verne Damien, where junior Tanner Carew is going to school.

Chris Rubio, the private long snapping coach, calls Carew the No. 1 long snapper in the nation.

When he snaps the ball, it doesn't flutter to a punter. It's a line drive that picks up steam.

Wasn't thinking about offering a LS this cycle but then I looked at the roster and see Iverson's a senior already. LaMar will be a junior if Tanner signs with us as a freshman but with these endorsements maybe he'd win the job outright in his first camp. Glad even with projected low signing numbers again next year this staff is still giving serious attention to special teams.

Instead of lip service and the Riddler?

One of the first things M2 did when he got to SJSU was to put more real focus on special teams. It takes longer to revamp an offense or a defense but STs can be turned around much faster. If you can improve by 40-50 yards a game on the hidden yardage and the return and coverage stats you can make life much easier for the other units of the team.

When you can get somebody who is the best in the country at what they do, no matter the position it is certainly worth looking at.

Hope we get him.

Is Iverson a senior this year? I guess all the other snappers after him aren't very good

Snappers behind Iverson looked a little rough to me in the spring.

Having a great snapper will improve your FG% and your punting averages. Very important.

And as Mtn said, the hidden yards from special teams are huge. When Parcells took over the Cowboys that was his first priority. He knew he couldn't immediately add a guy who would give him an extra 1,000 yards of offense that year, but he believed he could gain an extra 1,000 yards in ST differential. HCMM was under Parcells there and knows this philosophy well.

He actually camped here and seemed to like CU quite a bit:

Special teams is soooooo important. Especially when the rest of the team is suspect. A very good special teams can win 2-3 games a year and can keep you in games you would ordinarily get crushed in.

Ha. Jokes on him. He could have been apart of last years national champion of overall punting distance. Instead he's going to the last place punting team.
