Pretty good athlete at the QB position and his dad's a coach. CU was going to take a look at him before we got our guy.

Congrats to him on getting his first offer... and from a BCS program, no less.

Wazzou

Another CO quarterback in the Pac-12. CU never really recruited Apodaca. Gonna be interesting if we face him.

Congrats to him getting a BCS opportunity.

glad he's a Wazzu guy the magician puns would have been never ending.

Moving up in the ratings. Was NR/2*/2*/NR. Now 2*/3*/2*/3*.

Nice to see a CO kid getting some recognition.

He is projected as the backup as a RS Frosh. The projected starter was not very accurate last year. Apodaca may play early.

Not sure where you read that, but I can say with high confidence that that information is a bit dated.
Came out of the spring as the co-starter. He looked as good as the veteran kid in the Spring game and in many ways better. I am told it's to be decided in the fall and I wouldn't count Austin out.

CU did not recruit him. In fact, they did not acknowledge his existence. His Dad is the Silver Creek HS coach, where our first 2014 commit hails from, Isaac Miller.

More proof that the old staff just didn't get the big picture.

I really hope that Apodaca does well...I am rooting for him. But I am not going to beat up the former staff about not recruiting him - that had Connor Wood transferring in and they had received a commitment from Dillion who was their main QB target...so they were not going to take another QB. If Apodaca ends up being a star - then CU is not the only team who missed on him...

Well, if Apodaca ends up being a star QB and Dillon never plays a down, would you reconsider beating up the staff?

Neither has even started a single game yet, so it might be a little early to worry about that scenario.

'12 CO QB Austin Apodaca (Signed to Washington State)

Pretty sure I did state that we should have taken Austin or Cyler over Shane. We could have ****ing got then both and we would be ****ing set at ****ing QB. I am furious.

With a Junior QB who looked awesome in Spring ball (and was a former 4 star recruit), a Sophomore JUCO transfer, a highly rated RS FR, a highly rated true FR and Apsay incoming... I feel pretty good about our QB situation.

Agree with BnG. Hindsight is always 20/20 but if Apodaca had been that highly considered coming out of HS he would have ended up with much better offers than Washington State. There will always be players who you look back on and say we should have recruited that kid harder and others who you say I wish we had gone a different direction.

The directions for both CU and Apodaca had already been pretty well established when Dillon hurt his shoulder. Would we be looking at things differently if that had never happened as well.

First of all, you're an idiot for writing off a redshirt freshman QB. Second, Cyler was not staying in-state due to family circumstances.

Kind of off topic, but there is this Glamour-Shots type display in the middle of Park Meadows mall and one of the display photos is Cyler holding a football - I get a chuckle when I see it.

 really?

No. That sort of thing happens all of the time. Aaron Rogers went to a JUCO because he did not have any Div 1 offers out of HS (he was 5'10" and 165#s as a Sr.) he ended up maturing into a really outstanding QB, but no one has the crystal ball to tell the future so not one Division 1 coach saw that potential. Apodaca may turn out great, Shane Dillon may turn out great - I hope that is the case for both of these guys.

Transferring from Wazzu. He was their back-up and got some PT last year

Is this because Leach brought in some new gunslinger who is going to take over or is Apodaca tired of Leach's crap. Or is it for some other reason.

I get the sense that guys either really like playing for Leach or really don't, he's a different kind of coach.

It appears to be a depth chart issue. Connor Halliday is back for his senior season, then 4* Tyler Bruggman is coming off his redshirt freshman season, and then highly touted recruit from Florida coming in as a true frosh in the fall.

Didn't realize this had been announced but heard it from a Silver Creek Buff:

Apodaca to transfer to Mesa CC in hopes of finding FBS playing time.
