We will take a 2nd QB for 2014?

Several months ago someone posted a question about taking 2 QBs in this class. I thought they were a bit crazy given the logjam at that time, but now with Dillon & Hirsch gone and J Webb probably gone I wouldn't at all be surprised if we take another one-perhaps a dual threat that has upside like Lee-Campbell?

I really hope we land Campbell, but not because I want him at QB. Kid would be a really good WR or S imo.

I still say one per class. We just can't have 7 or 8 scholarships tied up to a single position.

He would be a great exception to the one per class standard. He has skills at QB, could be very interesting to see what he can do at the position.

At the same time if he doesn't turn out to be a contributor at QB he is a good enough athlete to contribute at a number of other positions.

No. That spot went to Gehrke until otherwise proven. Plus, it's a weak QB class.

I'd rather hold off, hope that CU shows signs of improving and in the next class land a highly touted 4* Elite 11 QB from Cali with early offers from schools like Florida State and Ohio State. Well, maybe not exactly like that...but I support just taking Apsay this class.

Normally I'd say "one QB per class" at the QB position, but from an outsider perspective, it might be worth taking a JC QB to provide some depth and balance out the classes based on this:

But I don't know that much about the Colorado depth chart. If this basketball transfer was your main backup, I might be concerned depending on how high (or not) you guys are about the other QBs you have in the bullpen.

Did not know that. Thanks Snow. Answers that question I guess.
That's why I hate this thread . Basically, even though we lost Dillon, we had already brought in Gehrke, which had doubled up Dillon's spot. So when Dillon left, it gave us the normal depth chart (minus the senior). Funny how that worked out, right?

And word is this summer that Gehrke is at least serviceable and that Sefo has potential. So ya, I doubt we take 2 Qbs unless one is an athlete with a shot at QB (See: Darius Lee-Campbell)

I still think we're a little weak, but there's nothing we can do about it. If Hirsch stayed, or if Webb wasn't injured (and didn't allegedly participate in beating down an Air Force cadet) I'd feel a lot better about it.

I dunno about y'all but I'd really like Sefo to Redshirt. I mean think about it, if Wood is a two year starter (which we should all hope) then Sefo benefits from sitting. If that were to happen we'd have:

1.) Connor Wood (R-Jr.)
2.) Jordan Gehrke (So)
3.) John Schrock (So)
4.) Stevie Joe Dorman (So)

Doesn't that leave us pretty bare for this year? I'd love it if we could get a JUCO transfer. Maybe a junior or something, or maybe a Sr. that's not going to play much this year who graduated already and wants to pursue a masters with CU. I really believe in Wood, but depth at QB is a huge key to success. I'm not that interested in pursuing multiple commits for 2014 though.

Dude... that's why we brought in Gehrke... Schollies are tight.

QB's on roster:

Arizona: 4
Arizona State: 4
Cal: 5
Colorado: 4
Stanford: 5
Oregon: 5
Oregon State: 3
UCLA: 7
USC: 4
Utah: 5
Washington: 5
Washington St: 3

This is just a quick glance at the current roster. I don't know if schools like UCLA have 3 walk-ons or if all 7 are scholarship. It looks like we are going to add 2 in the fall ( Sefo and Gehrke), so that puts us as 6. I don't know if they are all on scholarship, but for me the magic number is 4-5 and you need someone that can identify talent here.

After this season our roster will look like this:

Wood - Senior
Dorman - Junior
Shrock - Junior
Gehrke - Junior? (I thought he has 3 to play 3)
Sefo - Sophmore or (RS F)
Apsay - Freshman

I think we might see one out of dorman, Shrock or Gehrke either leave at the end of the season or move to another position.

HCMM today :

MacIntyre was asked about the possibility of taking two quarterbacks this cycle following Shane Dillon's decision to leave. "We
already have one quarterback committed," he said. "Usually you only take
one true quarterback. There might be a quarterback/athlete that we
would take also but we are always looking for quarterbacks. We'll look
at some kids this fall."
