What does "unattached freshman" mean? Is that a CU freshman who isn't under scholarship?

"Unattached" is the designation used when the athlete isn't associated with a team/school for the meet and is "independently" entered. It is used for track and cross country.

Usually this is done with athletes who are redshirting that season, athletes who have used up their eligibility, or athletes who train with schools, but aren't on the team. Other unattached athletes are typically pros who aren't currently under the contract of a team.

I'm glad to see Melanie Nun do well. She's a local kid who works hard and has a great attitude. If you follow her career, you'll be a big fan.

You see it a lot in collegiate wrestling tournaments too.
