With high school football seasons in full swing and most Buffs assistants on the road this week scouting, I am compiling a list of 2014 and 2015 (mostly the latter) that have showed out thus far. Hoping to have it done mid-week. As always, feel free to post about any players who have caught your eye.

Reactions: aik
2014

Desmon White
(DeSoto, TX): Tremendous athlete from a powerhouse program in the DFW Metroplex. Smaller player who currently plays QB (over 1,900 total yards and 20 TDs thus far in 2013), but could potentially fit at any number of positions at the next level. He recently committed to North Texas, but bigger schools could come calling if he leads DeSoto to a deep run in the Texas 5A playoffs.

Alif Grayes (Mission Hills, CA): Another good athlete currently playing QB who could project to several positions at the next level. He has led Bishop Alemany to a 5-0 record with both running and passing. Grayes was a full-time CB as a junior.

Rashaad Penny (Norwalk, CA): Lanky running back out of the Los Angeles area who has some non-BCS offers, but is starting to hear from PAC-12 schools. He shows off some athleticism in highlight video, and therefore might be better suited for the secondary at the next level. He does have 641 yards rushing and 12 TDs, as well as 3 TDs receiving, through five games this season.

2015

QB
Brian Lwerke (Phoenix, AZ): The early buzz for 2015 quarterbacks rightfully surrounds California prospects, but Lwerke already has an offer from hometown ASU and more offers may be on the way. He has an above average arm and decent athleticism. The biggest question here may be size.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/867926/highlights/67328378?autoplay=1

RB
Charles West (Coppell, TX): Compact running back with good speed out of the DFW Metroplex. He is averaging over 11 yards a carry as a junior and is in the top ten for rushing yards in the Metroplex. Listed at 5-10, he might be smaller, but he has plenty of speed and athleticism.

WR
Jaelan Austin (Grand Prairie, TX): Not exactly an unknown with four early offers, but off to a good start as a junior and looks to have pretty good size already. Potentially a guy who could make an early impact.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/919635/#highlights/73682509

Ben Humphreys (Santa Ana, CA): Good athlete out of Orange County who already has a Cal offer on the table. He plays multiple positions and looks to have good size and speed. Could potentially be a very good "move" TE down the road.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1442761/#highlights/36348383

TE
Erik Rottsolk (Seattle, WA): Extremely raw player who is new to football, but has the size and hands to be a good TE at the next level. Not that shifty, but seems to run pretty well and would be a "project" who could even grow into a OT down the road.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1191393/#highlights/49560380

OL
Nick Capella (Ventura, CA): Tall, lean OT prospect out of traditional power St. Bonaventure. Looks like he just needs some refinement and could be a very good RT at the next level with the toughness he already shows. He is starting to get looks from PAC-12 schools.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1598432/nicholas-capella

Jake Grant (Scottsdale, AZ): Tall guard prospect out of the Phoenix area who is getting a lot of early attention from PAC-12 schools, including the Buffs. Looks pretty raw, but plays with toughness.

Madison Akamnonu (Arlington, TX): Athletic, lanky OT prospect out of the DFW Metroplex. He has the frame to be a really good RT after a couple years in a college weight program. Really good feet and moves well.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1700498/#highlights/73723695

Roy Hemsley (Los Angeles, CA): Hemsley was strictly a basketball player before playing football for the first time as a sophomore. Good athlete with the frame to be a LT at the next level. He was a standout at the Oakland Nike Camp in May. Expect him to be a double digit offer player in the end.

Josh Jones (Richmond, TX): Athletic player out of the greater Houston area who has the frame to big a big-time OT down the road. Very raw, but has long arms that impressed observers at camps this past summer.

RB:

Kevin Nutt Jr - Fresno, CA (Nevada Commit):

Has a PR of 10.84 in the 100M. I think he'd bring the home rune thread our backfield is currently lacking. Also looks like a pretty good KR.

Harris Ross - Pittsburg, CA (Hawaii Commit)

Really good looking all-around back. Home run speed, good balance, good feet, and powerful with a good frame. Only problem is he apparently has some awful grades. If he could somehow get his grades up he'd be a steal.

Justin Allen - Santa Ana, CA

I really like how this kid runs. He plays on a big time team and scouts are no doubt around him all of the time, so he's well known but not well liked as he has no offers. His style just reminds me of Bobby Purify. Not flashy and probably won't break many long ones (speed is very questionable), but he'd be a solid guy to have get you 5-10 yards whenever he gets the ball.

WR:

Dante Pettis - San Juan Capistrano, CA

Solid athlete with good but not great speed. Currently has 16 catches for 364 yards with 6 TDs through 3 games. JSerra is the school that always gets beat up in the Trinity League, so his stats probably won't continue on this pace, but it's a good start. Could also be a DB.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/344418/highlights/67799375

Andrew Celis - Kentfield, CA (Nevada Commit)

Similar to Dante Pettis. Good, but not great speed. Size is good, but not huge. Also could slide over to the defensive side of the ball. Stats aren't available, but I found this on cal-hi sports:

Marin Catholic star all over the field
For the second-straight week, Nevada-bound Marin Catholic multi-talented Andrew Celis has epitomized the old Gaelic phrase “he’s here, he’s there, he’s everywhere.”
Last week, in a win over Orinda Miramonte, he had 157 yards receiving and one TD, returned a punt 50 yards for a score, kicked a 42-yard field goal, returned punts and kickoffs, and punted and kicked off.
On Saturday, in a 31-20 win at St. Ignatius (San Francisco), the 6-foot, 178-pound Celis caught a 17-yard TD pass from Oregon-bound quarterback Morgan Mahalak, threw a 24-yard halfback option pass for a touchdown, kicked a 46-yard field, returned punts and kickoffs, and did it all in just over two quarters before leaving due to cramps.

TE:

Davis Koppenhaver - Newhall, CA (verbal to Duke)

Same team as 2015 targets Brady White and Trent Irwin. Good height, but very skinny. Must work on blocking and add weight (hardly even lines up with his hand on the ground). He already has 24 catches for 307 yards with 2 TDs this season through 3 games. Expect that to increase quite a bit as the Hart offense is quite prolific. A project to be certain, but I like the athletic ability and frame.

I don't really know a ton about OL other than tall and athletic = good, so here's a few that fit that incredibly unique description:

OL:

Chris Brown - Los Angeles, CA

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/510114/highlights/68909504

David Hartmeier - Hollywood, CA

Joe Salcedo - Santa Barbara, CA

LB:

Kevin Moore - San Diego, CA

Moore has seemingly no interest from colleges so far, but I like him a lot. He also fits the Mac profile (LB that plays RB). He's not a fast RB (probably 4.7 or so), but seems to be able to turn the corner pretty nicely. I think he can slide over to LB and really excel. He has a great frame as well. Is having quite the season at RB and S so far: 56 carries 502 yards 10 TDs. On defense he already has 3 INTs and 2 PDs.

CB:

Artuz Manning - Rancho Cucamonga, CA

He tore it up consistently all summer at camps. He's not very big (5-10 or so), but he can definitely cover. Rancho Cucamonga had 3 DBs go D1 last year (USC, UCLA, and Idaho) so Artuz didn't get as much PT as most would have. He is starting this year and hopefully doing well. I'm sure scouts are onto him considering the summer he had, but they may have filled up already and we could swoop in on him.

Maurice McKnight - San Bernardino, CA (Verbal to San Jose St)

Lanky kid that also tore it up at camps over the summer. He decommitted from SDSU because they wanted him to play strong safety, but he wanted corner  So.. I guess we'd have to offer him as a corner. He would definitely need some time to bulk up, very skinny.

Those are all 2014 prospects btw. I have another list of 2015 kids I've been keeping track of, but I don't really feel like giving it another hour to post them all right now :smile2:

Does anyone know anything about Josh McNair at Thomas Jefferson? I did stats for the Broomfield Channel 8 broadcast of the Holy Family/T.J. game last night and the kid stuck out like a sore thumb, a man among boys. He is super raw and they barely targeted him (I wonder if they have instructions not to use him much since he is a b-ball player), but he is a stud athlete. Speed is a question mark...never really made it to space. He's 6'6 and looked like with some work, he could be a killer tight end. Maybe a greyshirt candidate...I think he is a junior. Plus that last Tight End from Thomas Jefferson was pretty good for the Buffs.

2015

QB:

I really have not come upon anyone that jumped out to me beyond the well known guys. There's a ton of them all over the west coast in 2015, so getting the right one is absolutely key for the next class. My personal favorites are: Brady White, Sheriron Jones, and Jake Browning. One name I'd add that I haven't seen mentioned much is Blake Barnett from Corona Santiago.

RB:

Kirk Johnson (San Jose, CA): Bigger back that has amazing feet. He doesn't have great top speed, but is a workmanlike back that could do very well as an every down back in the P12. Mac is probably quite familiar with him given his location.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1624119/highlights/38692343

Paul Lucas (Phoenix, AZ): Amazing speed on this kid. Film is pretty limited from what I could find, but anyone that runs away from Bishop Gormon like that is someone that will find his place in the P12 imo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDcTMTLtofc
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dErN5FT9ik

WR:

Michael Little (Sherman Oaks, CA): Skinny kid that could play WR or CB at the next level. Seems to play fairly physical given his weight. Makes plays on the ball and has pretty good speed.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2219437/

Lavan Alston (Ventura, CA): Great speed and reminds me of a young PRich. Outruns absolutely top level competition is his videos and has pretty good ball skills. He's the type of all around receiver we have trouble finding.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/2770272/highlights/77157383

OL:

Levi Long (Salen, OR): Really tall tackle prospect (6'7) with good athleticism. Film is fairly limited, but he clocked in a 4.20 shuttle time at 263 pounds. Impressive.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1866608/highlights/77858418

Joseph Price (Redlands, CA): Local kid to me, looks like he has good athleticism for his weight (290) and is pretty aggressive. Listed at 6'5, he might project to the right side or even inside at the next level, but he's definitely a good athlete with a good frame.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/281271/highlights/76769262

DE:

Jason Scrempos (Milpitas, CA): Might project to OL at the next level, but right now I like him as a really big DE with solid burst. It'd be nice to have a 6'6 280 pound guy on the edge for us. I'm sure the staff is well aware of him as he plays at a high school they know a lot about.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1041020/highlights/69477405

DT:

Khalil McKenzie (Concord, CA): He already has some nice P12 offers so I'm not really going out on a limb here. Great size and burst for a massive kid. He'll be a good one at the next level.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORFme3HJ16k

Scott Foley (Redlands, CA): Reminds me a lot of Jase Franke. Might not be the best athlete out there, but he has solid size and decent speed for a big kid. If he can get up to the 300 range and maintain some speed, he'd be a nice anchor in the middle for us. And he's local

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/762920/highlights/73479401

LB:

Simba Short (Concord, CA): Big time player on the De La Salle defense. Big enough for LB and fast enough for DB. He's going to be a top notch in the box safety or linebacker at the next level.

http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/977051/highlights/84803376

DB:

Kameron Powell (Upland, CA): Good looking safety prospect. Probably don't want him covering a WR the entire game, but has decent cover skills. Also isn't afraid to come up and get physical. Speed and lateral agility is good enough to cover sideline to sideline. Already has a UW offer, so again, not really going out on a limb here. Will get a lot of P12 offers.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvg9q0-Ysl4

Elijah Jones (Upland, CA): Good looking corner on the same team as Powell. Size definitely limits him to corner, but he's a very aggressive corner. Love how he fights for the ball and has great closing speed.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtnzEKeS_aY

Dylan Kane (Honolulu, HI): Big rangy kid that will be a great safety at the next level. Impressed at some NFTC camps this summer where he clocked in a 102.93 SPARQ score at 6'3 187.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IgtlQZsqoCM

same high school as pow pow... is that his brother?

How many of these guys do we have an offer to? Who are we competing against for them?

RB:
Harris Ross - Pittsburg, CA (Hawaii Commit)

Really good looking all-around back. Home run speed, good balance, good feet, and powerful with a good frame. Only problem is he apparently has some awful grades. If he could somehow get his grades up he'd be a steal.

Guess the Beavers were listening to WR; Ross just flipped from Hawaii to Oregon State. Wonder if this leaves Squally Canada looking for a home, as he'd seemed pretty high on Oregon State as of his last update.

Intredasting. I just looked and Ross is their first RB commit
