We may be looking at another unusually high attrition rate this coming offseason. The transition is still in full swing.

Look for numbers in the 2014 class to be fluid all the way to February.

Very good point.

We may see a number of guys who had certain expectations based on promises from the prior staff and others who simply see that they don't have much playing future with better new talent coming in bail out.

There's a good chance for that, but by not going nuts with freshman playing time, hopefully the players that leave are the ones who somehow don't fit the system and not bodies we may need.

Not sure I understand why you think that unless you have inside info. I say this because it seems like HCMM has been transparent with his players and by the end of spring ball and early in fall camp, I think most kids knew where they stood. Furthermore, we already had some attrition due to players not meeting HCMM's standards and/or other reasons. I would have thought the majority of attrition would have occurred by now.

Even the heavyweight programs see at least half a dozen leave a year for personal reasons or it's a mutual parting with the head coach. Then there's academic issues and medical retirements. I think it would be normal to expect a handful, but the number of non-medical departures last offseason was not as severe as I thought it would be. We can probably expect something around that level and with the turnover we've had in the last decade I don't see any way we keep 90% of the returning roster intact. It's just going to happen.

I suppose playing in a location like Boulder can be a double edged sword. It's easy to recruit to, but dead weight might be more inclined to linger there longer then it would elsewhere.

I am just guessing due to kids are so entitled these days. They all come in thinking they are "it". There is some serious competition at some of these positions. Some of these kids recruited in are not able to break through to even the two deep line-up. I can see those kids going the Lobato route to a lesser football program so they can play. Not to mention those that are home sick or have the dreaded family issue to deal with.

Thank you Hawk. Lobato might have been our best QB last year had he stayed and been developed but Hawk decided that he didn't fit the profile (short and weak armed) and wanted to move him to safety.

Beyond that though I do think that there are a number of kids who had promises made to them by JE and Co. that aren't going to happen. A number of the guys we have remainding from earlier recruiting classes are not developing into BCS level players. If they are going to be putting in the time to work and practice they might as well go someplace where they have a better chance of seeing the field.

This recruiting class doesn't appear any better than the other ones. Being pushed out by more talented kids out of HS isn't going to be the problem. It's going to be who develops faster and fits the system better. I am going to guess we lose 3 or 4 this year who want to move on or are injured.
