Which Recruit on CUs radar would you want most?

A thread about recruits has introduced two new Allbuffs recruits!

I am not as in tune with individual recruits as many, but I just want as many studs up front on O line and D line as possible. Everything else can fall into place after that.
Allbuffs - Come for the recruiting, stay for the abuse.

I tend to think we need more help on defense than we do on offense, so if I had to pick one guy who is still out "there", it would be Ihenacho.

I'm worried about scoring on offense next year w/o our biggest playmaker. We have needs everywhere, except making kicking, but there we need someone for the future.

Diego should push Oliver this year and be really solid for two years after Oliver leaves.

I think the young guys that RS will make a big impact. Bobo impressed me the times I saw him. I think offense puts up bigger numbers. Spruce will be solid and improve again this year. Adkins II and hopefully Dotson should help rushing attack.

Defensively, we are in good shape I believe. Need pass rush help. CUD had a tough year sack wise due to double teams and I think his shoulder hurt him all season.

I'm struggling with how you could come to this conclusion.

I am comparing it to the crap we have seen the last 4 years. Think our secondary will be much better next year. Our LB crew should also improve, especially w/ the recruits we have. THE BIG question/issue on defense is the pressure put on the QB. Got better at years end, but has miles to go.

That's not setting the bar terribly high. When somebody says "We are in good shape on defense", I read that to mean something better than a slight improvement over dogsh*t. I don't like placing a lot of dependence on incoming freshmen to make the team better, either. Rippy should help, but let's be honest, he hasn't played a down of college football, so we really don't know what we're getting there. Crawley and Wright are both underachievers at this point. I'd love to see them both step it up, but I'm not holding my breath. The DL is a huge question mark at this point. Could be good, might not be. I think there are way too many unanswered questions to be able to declare that we're in "good shape on defense". JMHO.

Junior and Senior filled interior of the DL, junior and senior filled secondary, increased athleticism at the OLB (reports are the staff really, really likes Rippy), Gillam coming back bigger, stronger, and faster, 2nd year in the system, etc.

And yet, with all that, it's still nothing more than blind optimism at this point. We're a long way from being "in good shape" on defense.

Still don't understand the Crawley and Wright being underachievers comment. Were they supposed to light the world on fire just because they were 4*'s? Both have the height you need in a big time recruit, but neither have the weight yet and didn't have the coaching until last season. Wright needed to RS in 2012, same with Crawley. Crawley took a big step forward this year by sticking on his man, now he needs to make plays on the ball. Wright, whole lot of athleticism while being extremely raw. If neither take a big step forward this year they will be underachievers since it will have been their third year in the program, but I'm not jumping on that bandwagon yet.

We gave up 38ppg. It's going to take more than experience to turn that around

Having a upper classmen DL is going to help a lot

The whole defense needs to improve, mainly pass d. Our pass efficiency was last in the nation. Our DB's are ok (certainly not worst on the nation), but they are exposed by lack of pass rush and athletically limited LB's. I think we'll be better but count me in as.still greatly concerned. I can't really say we landed any true pass rushers or athletic LB's. I was hoping for more instant contributors to help right away.

Thanks for the reminder, I had forgotten about him, but the jury's still out until he shows it live. I don't share your rosy view on the short term improvement on offense/defense. I think it's going to take 2-3 years just to get to respectable.

Having an offense that can control the ball for and have a few 10+ play drives would make our D look a heck of a lot better on paper. I am struggling to figure out how we are going to get to the QB with our current set of DE/LB's.

I'd say Rippy counts in the 'landing a athletic LB'. Yes he's a transfer but has yet to play and I'd rather have him stepping in beforehand (no hindsight) than a 18 year old kid as it doesn't look like any JUCO LBs were pursued by the staff.

Kudos for your loyalty, but as a reality bump, 4*s would be Deon Figures and Michael Lewis.

I realize that Crawley and Wright were both "high-starred" coming out of high school. Just sayin'. In my mind a four just comes in and plays well from the git go.

I wonder if the staff can talk Stallings, the center from Alabama into a visit. Might be a nice get.

It appears Bennion's scholarship doesn't count towards next year which means he is like a grayshirt. Wood is gone and Thomas is gone. Smith and Witherspoon are already on campus and probably can count towards last year. There are likely 2-4 schollies that are still out there in some form.

With that in mind, here's what would be great to see:
1.
2. Ballage flips to Buffs. He makes up for loss of Dotson (25% it happens based off how things have gone with him)
2. Courtland Sutton chooses BCS over irrelevant independent BYU.
3. Vecchio or Hill sign to give some OLB depth that is needed
4. If his head is good, Pio Vatuvei would help a ? mark filled DL

There are a handful of guys with offers that we have no shot at and a few that we are their best offer we may fill the class with if the group above doesn't pan out. The class is rated low but there are some guys that pass the BS factor Hawkins and Embree's diamonds in the rough didn't. This is a solid class but nothing to get the skeptics excited. Results on the field will alleviate some of the battles they have with guys like Dotson and keeping a guy like Rodriguez (we hope). Bowl in 2014 and the momentum builds we hope!

Why is #1 so great?
