Rest of the thread can be for discussing conference tourney upsets and what that might do to the Bubble.

Today, I find myself rooting for teams like Iona and Vermont that could make for an entertaining Dance opponent in the 1st round. We lose a lot if any other team from the MAAC or Am East gets the auto-bid.

Best player you've never heard of: Billy Baron, Canisius. Started his career at Virginia, then transferred to play under his father at Rhode Island, then his father was fired and he has made his way to Canisius. Scoring just below 25 points per game, over 5 assists and 5 rebounds. Very, very good player.

Sounds like a guy tad should have offered amirite. JRK

E Kentucky just took down Belmont to win the OVC. Belmont had the #55 RPI coming in (EKU 113). There's not enough on Belmont's resume to steal an at-large berth. 1-bid league this year.

Tournament just got a little more predictable. Belmont had the potential to be a very dangerous 13 seed

Green Bay just lost to Milwaukee in the Horizon. Final will be their 3 seed vs their 5 seed. Green Bay was a team that could have given someone trouble in the Dance (RPI 52) but won't make it now. 1-bid league.

Green Bay and Belmont losing is a shame.

Wow. Green Bay was one of my sleepers. Looks like I dodged a bullet.

More of these teams that lose their conference championship, the better I say. Opens it up for PAC-12 bubble teams like Cal, in addition to helping with seeding. Sending 7 teams to the tourney would be a first for the conference. Although probably skewed by the fact that Utah and Colorado are additions, they'd have more tourney bids than the 15 team ACC conference or the 14 team conference SEC, and maybe even the vaunted Big Ten.

PAC-12 ranks third in RPI, it's best since 2001. Really great depth here. How many conferences do you see with the third place and tenth place teams being separated by 2 games?

Championship games today:

Big South. Winthrop vs Coastal Carolina. 1-bid league and Winthrop would probably be the slightly better Tourney team. 10am, ESPN2.

Atlantic Sun. Mercer vs FL Gulf Coast. 1-bid league. FGCU had the run last year, but Mercer has shown more this year. 12pm, ESPN2.

Missouri Valley. Wichita State vs Indiana State. 1-bid league unless ISU wins. RPI 78 won't get them an at-large. 12pm, ESPN.

San Diego State won the MWC overcoming a 16 point deficit to New Mexico in the second half.

That was for the regular season champion. For the MWC tourney, we need SDSU or UNM to win. Any other champ would be a bubble buster.

Mercer is in the Dance. Could be a team that can pull an upset.

Wichita State wins by double digits, keeping the MVC as a 1-bid league this year.

I'm not too happy about Towson losing in the Colonial semis and Vermont losing in the Am East semis. Those were 2 teams that could have been entertaining in the Dance.

Towson lost a quasi home game at the Baltimore Arena. Good time for Towson sports between the football teams going to the FCS CG and the vast improvement in basketball.

Vermont has been punishing everyone all season. what happened?

Got killed on the glass (45-30) and had a cold first half (19 points). They'd had no trouble with Albany the other 2 times they played them. Beat them by 30 at home and won by 10 at Albany. Just a bad day, I guess, while Albany played its A game.

I believe the game was at Albany too.

Monday Finals:

Colonial - William & Mary vs Delaware. Delaware would be the better tourney team.

Metro Atlantic - Manhattan vs Iona. You guys would enjoy watching Iona play in the Dance.

Southern. W Carolina vs Wofford. I think WCU has a bit more athleticism to be able to match up in the Dance. It's a shame Davidson didn't make it.

I watched the Valley championship. The Valley was way down, I know, losing Creighton and adding no one will do that to a conference, but I was still majorly impressed with Wichita State. That team oozes confidence. They're not likely to win it all, but they sure as hell won't be backing down against anyone. They've got the right pieces to make another final four run.

Manhattan has some pretty good players and I saw them play at least 8 or 9 guys. They have good depth.
