Dre Activated For the Western Confence Finals?

With Serge Ibaka out? I think he must be - Jarrett Jack is the other inactive player, but it appears he hasn't played all year. I just haven't been able to find any confirmation.

Can't they de-activate him for the WCF and activate him for the Finals? I think he's done for at least this series.

There's a 4-day layoff after (I think) Game 2. I'd assume they want to see how Ibaka is in a week and wouldn't want to de-activate him just in case he is able to go.

Gonna be fun to watch that Oklahoma team when they go small ball in this series. Durant at "center" with 4 guards on the court. That lineup probably includes Dre since he can actually guard the post despite the height and weight disadvantages (as we all saw in college).

Dre needs to channel his inner Rodman in this one.

Just to recap for all of those people that said all of those ****ty things about Dre declaring:

Made 700k+
Played in 40 games
Started 16 games
Got to guard a boyhood idol in Kobe
Activated for and will likely play in the western conference finals.

What did he miss?
A 3rd place finish in the Pac
A likely first round tourney exit

Last part is irrelevant/extraneous, but I see your point

Absolutely support Dre's decision to chase his dream and agree it's worked out well. But I think we might have done better than you say above with him still in a buff uniform. Our D wasn't that great this year. He would have fixed a lot of those problems.

Come on, man. Your point stands, but you are being hyperbolic with what he missed.

Butterfly effect. With Dre on the court, rotations and the game action changes. Mayor probably doesn't get hurt and definitely doesn't get hurt in the same way. Wes stays healthier and doesn't have to start. Could have ended up as an Elite 8 team with all that going on. Dre could have cemented himself as an all-time CU legend while finishing his degree.

That said, even if all the best case "blue sky scenario" things would have happened, he still made the right decision for himself. 1st round pick. Still alive for a shot at an NBA title. Put a healthy 6 figures in the bank (after agents & taxes), moved a year forward on his clock toward his 2nd contract, and got to live the dream.

One of those we'll NEVER know. If 'Dre is playing who knows if Spencer injures himself in UW. With these things, people like to pretend the only difference is the player in question and everything else stays the same, it doesn't.

Anyways, it doesn't matter, he clearly made the right decision regardless of how far CU went.

How does Spencer not get hurt if Dre returns?

I assumed he still gets hurt in that equation and it even more supports my point about uncertainties, you cant live with them in sports, take what you can now.

Change the rules, change the game. I think Nik did a good job of highlighting this with the rotations/game actions changing. He could still get hurt, but it's not a foregone conclusion.

I don't think you can make any assumptions one way or another. You have a point with uncertainties however. That's why I think in general, when you should have a chance to go pro, you should like what you said with "take what you can now."

As I posted, there's a "butterfly effect". Rotations within that game are different. Spencer would not have had the ball at that time on that same exact fast break if Dre is on the team. Mayor may have gotten hurt in a different scenario. But the exact scenario in which Mayor was hurt would never have existed.

Basically, if we introduce Dre back on to the 2013-14 CU MBB team we are creating an alternate reality time line where an infinite number of possibilities exist (including every single player on the team going down with a knee injury). But the actual play the Mayor injury happened on cannot exist in that other reality because of the fundamental change we made.

Kind of like if we change the KU game so that they didn't score on their last possession, the Ski shot wouldn't have happened so the final score and box score would have ended up different on the CU side.

Unless Dre is a psychic and forces Spencer to sit out the UDub game, I'm not buying it.

How does Spencer not get hurt if Dre returns?
It depends. If Mayor was starring in Groundhog Day, he would get hurt no matter what. If he were starring in Butterfly Effect, he might avoid injury but his girlfriend might become a tweaker.

Dre being there would completely alter the situation. Different rotations. Spencer would have been in a different place. He wouldn't have been in the exact same location experiencing the exact same injury. Sure, I guess it could have happened elsewhere on the court, but Nik's viewpoint is correct IMO.
