After showing continual improvement and closing in the American Record throughout this year, former Buff 3,000 meter steeplechaser Emma Coburn broke it today with a 9:11.42 time while finishing 2nd at the Glasgow Diamond League Meet. The former record of 9:12.50 was held by another former Buff and her training partner, Jenny Simpson.

In addition to the great times, both former Buffs (Ms. Simpson in her current event the 1,500 meters) are VERY popular in the running community and doing CU proud with their gutsy, front running styles.

Congrats to Ms. Coburn, and to her coaches Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs!

Congrats to Emma and all those involved in making this happen!

Edit: I just watched the highlights. Emma gave everything she had. Just an outstanding performance. It will be fun to watch her continue to grow - could be one of the few Americans to seriously threaten on the world scene down the road.

Has there been an American taken seriously in the distance events since CU's Mary Decker-Slaney?

How could I forget Kara.

I guess the better question is: has any college besides CU been developing American female distance runners that can compete on the international stage?
