Ugh.

On a Monday night, no less. I'm considering just taking the next day off work.

I love that CU is on TV and getting a lot of national attention. But man, 11:00 PM tipoff? Whose crazy idea was this?

11 PM boulder time, 1 AM Eastern. Good west coast slot, ****ty east coast.

That said, I'm def coming in late on Tues. STOKED!

yeah, this sucks for most real fans in the Boulder area. that being said, let's embrace this. I'm hoping to see a nearly packed Coors Center, with a shockingly low sobriety rate among the attendees. It should be loud and wild.

And, getting a game on National TV is almost always good.

I can't rationalize burning a vacation day following a local, regular season hoops game just because I'll be too tired/hung-over. Sure, the start time is late, but I'll still get home earlier than I would after a concert at the Ogden (it's all relative, right?).

It would be nice if the CEC would drop the "no outside food and beverages" for this event, or at minimum, let a real coffee shop setup a booth inside.

I can rationalize taking a vacation day for just about any reason. "just 'cause I wanna", is as good a reason as any.

As to whether this is a good west coast/East coast time. It's not. It's a bad start time for both coasts. The only folks that will see this at a halfway normal hour are the folks in Hawaii. 8:00 PM start time on the islands, brah.

Who is responsible? Isn't it Tad's job to schedule?

Yes. But when ESPN wants to involve you in an event (such as tipoff or Big Monday or whatever), that can get the athletic department and even the conference involved. I'd assume that working things out with ESPN went beyond Tad and Pearl.

The C Unit needs to start thinking of some great signs for Bruce Pearl. Like, now. The guy is a gold mine for that kind of stuff.

I can't wait!

Should be fun. Definitely the best OOC game on the schedule. I imagine the students will love it (except for those with a 8:00 am class the next morning)

I'm glad we're playing Auburn early, before they have time for the roster to gel

Is this one of those games in the window where ESPN has 24 straight hours of live games?

One of the reasons I don't mind the start time. If the Buffs weren't playing, I'd be pulling an all-nighter anyway to watch the season tip-off.

Game starts at midnight here. DVR time as scores that late will not be in morning paper.

It is actually 7pm. Maui is 4 hours behind colorado. ( i am assuming the other islands are the same or at least the ones where people actually live)

Depends on whether we are in daylight savings time or not. In the Winter months, it's a three hour difference. In the Summer, it's four. Hawaii doesn't change their clocks.

Although it sucks for TV exposure, given the good turnout they had for Gameday in Boulder, it's possible that ESPN assigned us the crappy time based on the belief that we'd be able to turn out a better crowd at that time compared to some other schools. Its part of the crap we have to deal with as a result of being considered good but not elite. Ten more years of this run and several Sweet 16 or better appearances and we'd get a better slot.

Unfortunately the crowd could also suck if we have weather that evening, which is not unheard of that time of year. I might be looking into a hotel room for the evening. Crappy part is you likely won't even be able to hit the bars after the win even if you stay up there.

ESPN assigned us this game for one reason and one reason only, it fit best into their schedule. It's honor to be playing in this event. 5 years ago it would've been a pipe dream to be playing in such an event, against a relatively good opponent (playing Bruce Pearl's team is better than saying it's Auburn).

Why can't people just be happy with this? It's better to play than not to play in this event. Not just speaking to this specific post, but you can really complain about everything. Sorry were not at the Duke/Kentucky level yet, where we're playing in the Champions Classic.

There's multiple reasons it's an 11 pm game and CU not being an elite program is only one part:

1. We're Mountain Standard time so it fits better than an east coast game. Look at Hawaii playing at 3 am MST
2. There's Monday Night football to contend with hence the women's games being played earlier in the evening

Other aspects to consider:
1. Similar level programs like Baylor, Utah, SDSU, and even Memphis/Wichita all start their games between 10 am-2 pm MST Tuesday which is arguably harder for a lot of folks to attend/watch
2. Oregon plays earlier on Monday night but it's ESPNU which a lot less folks get than our broadcast on ESPN2

Finally, we're never going to be on the UK/KU level. Those are elite 100 year basketball programs. Get over it.
