We've already seen Mac recruit and heard him say he'll pull athletes that can play multiple positions and can move well, we've seen Talinko move to OLB already but this roster has holes from years of futility, attrition, and class imbalance. what are your top 3 positions of need in this class.

For me even though we have some numbers at all of these positions it is:

OL
DL
RB

teams with solid line play win.

I know we just took a TE, but I wonder if we don't need a guy that we're pretty confident is going to actually play at TE

DL>DE>OL>Safety

I'm already including who we have committed for our 15' class. We need a pass rush in a big way

LB, RB, S. From the juco ranks we may also need to look at a center if the coaches aren't confident there's a long-term starter there.

part of the reason for my post Mac said/warned he'd take a lot of guys like Haigler and with his frame I can't stop thinking Nate Solder. Which means we still need a TE.

Fact.

You can cover up a lot of other weaknesses if you can control the LOS.

OL is also a place where with solid coaching and development you can win without getting the highest rated recruits. They still have to be good but look at what Wisconsin has done over the years and a lot of those guys were solid 3* types without multiple offers from the recruiting powerhouse schools.

1+....Do need some DBs though. Next year there are no potential RS FR corners.

Assuming that we'll sign 20 freshmen, here's the breakdown I'd like to see:

QB - 1 (filled by Montez)
RB - 1 (need an impact player)
WR - 1 (Blandin comes in as a junior and we may have 2 RS-Frosh)
TE - 1 (we may sign more, but need 1 who will definitely stick at TE)
OL - 4 (graduate only 2, but need this pipeline filled. 1 filled by Miller's grayshirt, 2 filled by Lynott & Middlemiss)
DT - 2 (filled by Sewell & Tonz)
DE - 1 (filled by Fehoko)
LB - 3 (1 filled by Watanabe's grayshirt, 1 filled by Falo)
CB - 2 (lose Henderson to graduation and lost Hall to the law)
S - 1 or 2 if Bell doesn't come back (open)
K/P - 1 (filled by Kinney)
ATH - 2 or 3 (find playmakers and find a home for them)

Also of note, some positions would benefit from Sophomore or Junior transfers from the JUCO ranks in 2015 even more than adding a freshman.

CB will be empty of sophomores if Sanchez redshirts. DE could really use a junior who can play immediately. TE might be helped out a lot with another upperclassman to go with Irwin.

Well, that's my point. If Tonz moves to guard, I only see Lopez as a true nose tackle with a lot of other, smaller guys. I guess Boogie Sewell could be that guy, since he has a wide body.

Safety
Running back
OL

For some reason, that is my thinking as well. I believe he was recruited as a guard.

With Tonk possibly an OG and Haigler possibly an OT, it may be that we are done on the OL for this class but need to find more at DT and TE. If Boogie is going on a mission (undecided), we need another DT regardless.

I'm seeing Franke as the DT of the future once he gets through a full year or two of S&C.

If we stay with the current scheme, the future at DT is Lopez playing a 0 technique and Franke playing next to him in the 3 technique.

I think Boogie is stout enough to play a 0. I think Bennion will be a 3 when he gets here.

"0" means lined up over the center controlling the A gaps on between the center and either guard. "3" means outside shoulder of a guard, controlling the B gap between the guard and tackle. Playing this style DL means that one of the DEs needs to be able to be big enough to play a "5" technique on the opposite side of your "3" technique DT so that this DE is controlling 2 gaps -- both inside and outside the OT (B & C gaps). Then, the other DE is in a "7" on the outside of the OT with C responsibilities.

In other words, we'd have a Tupou with a Parker on the inside. At DE, we end up with a Pericak and a Chidera on opposite sides.

I don't know if this is the defense that the coaches want as we move forward. Maybe they'd prefer both DTs in a "2" with a 2-way go to get penetration and then the DEs playing a "5" with a 2-way go. All of them told to find ball on the way to the quarterback. We're all kind of assuming that we want to play a certain system and it may be that the coaches are building toward a different one but playing the hand they were dealt with the roster they inherited and underdeveloped youth filling the depth chart.

1. OLB-Most importantly, adding size here. The best way to combat edge running schemes.

2. RB/TE (tie)-we lack dynamic playmakers here.

If they could find a way to reel in Eddie Rudinski and Gabriel Sewell, oh boy. What category does Tevis Bartlett go on here?

Bartlett is the fit at OLB.

No idea what the RB or TE looks like, which should be concerning considering it is late August.

On RB, I'm a hopeless optimist. I will believe we're pulling Chris Warren and poaching Kendall Bussey until the bitter end. :smile2:

Twitter stalking. Saw bussey retweeted a couple pictures of CU stadium and campus the other day. Would be the best steal in the history of the football program to take the nubs best recruit from Louisiana while they took the top two from our state.

OLB

Fingers crossed for Bartlett or G Sewell (both would be really really nice)

Oh and a playmaker at RB would be great too
