Former University of Colorado guard Brittany Wilson has signed a one-year contract to play for KR Reykjavik of the Iceland Dominos League.

It is going to be tough with Iceland being the destination. The immediate approval most people including myself who have never been give is how beautiful the landscape is, however the language, climate, and food will be huge adjustments. Same with many places one could be playing overseas. She can do exactly what she knows how to do in any country which is play ball and I'm sure those in the sport can stick together in a place like this and foster some sense of community while being what feels like another planet away from home.

Funny thing is, while she hated the winters that's likely a thing that's helping her get opportunities. It's on her resume that she has performed in a cold weather climate.

Well, Iceland isn't as cold as people think (moderated by Atlantic). However, it's dark essentially 24 hours per day in winter and light 24 hours per day in summer. Reykjavik is a great city. She may not enjoy the showers, though…we call them "egg showers" because of the sulfur smell in the water.

I just hope BWil plays well. From reading Sabrina Scott's blog of her last two years playing in France before retiring, when you are the only American on the team, there isn't much of a support system. Sounded like for her it varied from team to team how well the other players accepted the American on the team. The pictures Sabrina has posted and what she has written about talk about a family that pretty much adopted her in Italy and the team all got along great in Sweden.

I also wonder how Brittany and Ashley will do being apart. They were roommates all through college. Big changes for her and they are about to start.

Iceland's population is so tiny (330,000 inhabiting an island the size of Kentucky) that American and other athletes have long gone there for soccer and hoops. Icelanders also speak English extremely well, much better than the French. This is an experience of a lifetime for her. I hope she's able to take the little things in stride and focus on the big picture.

I hope Brittany will also. Both Brittany and Ashley are already on twitter wondering what they will do without each other. I have no idea of what it is like to be an identical twin, but I do think they have a special bond--one totally different than sisters.

That's good to hear about the language. I wasn't sure how accommodating it was these days. A couple decades ago when the American military had a presence at NAS Keflavik I can imagine there being more US-centric amenities.

All the paperwork and visa problems have been resolved and Brittany left for Iceland this morning. Play your heart out and show them your stuff!

After some visa issues and a flight cancellation that left her in familiar territory, Denver, Brittany is now in Iceland. She was issued her uniform today and she got #11. Sounds like she will be moving to a "better" apartment soon. She is really missing Ashley and vice versa. Those two have lived together for 22 years and this is new territory for each of them.

First game today, team lost by 4 points, but B Wil had a triple double 17 pts, 11 boards and 10 assists. She says the team is "alright" but they should have beat the opponent. Some owner is saying she isn't good enough to be there, so she is determined to show them she belongs.

Brittany was injured in yesterday's game. She tore her achilles and will be returning home.

She was off to such a great start.

Edit: Dammit for her bad luck! I just saw it after I posted. Man, an Achilles injury is no bueno. Especially for someone as young as she is.

B Wil is now sporting a red cast and is not a happy camper. She had such a great first game and I think she is fearful that she will never get another opportunity. Hoping she heals in the 8-9 weeks she says and then rehab after that. Probably means she is out for this season as far as playing overseas.
