Trouble with the zone...

Anyone have any suggestions?

Our offense gets pretty stagnant once we see a zone D. We pretty much throw it to the wings and then hoist away from afar.

Seems that we have the guys necessary to put a big man up at the free throw line and have guys cut from the wings once he has the ball. But this has really been a problem for us over the years.

They have to make quicker decisions. Ideally, since, they do not have a good shooting team, you would prefer to not allow opposing teams to set their defense. But if they do, you want to get the ball inside to Josh Scott. He's going to be doubled quickly so if he is not able to get off a good shot, he needs to pass it off to the open man. That open man has to be able to hit shots.

We are way too slow with our passes, which doesn't help.

Key issue. We knew outside shooting was a problem. It only gets magnified with our matter-of-fact slow passing.

am I crazy in thinking we have the right personnel to run a triangle offense?

This is where we needed a PG to step up. Get Jelly the ball in the high post and go from there. Unfortunately, none did. As long as we continue to ignore Josh in the high post, we're going to continue to be flummoxed by zone defenses. Unless a PG can step up, we're in trouble.

Absolutely, you have to have a pg in that situation. Whether it's 1-3-1, 2-3, matchup zone, whatever, ya gotta have a qb aka point guard. I was a point and was always taught to attack a zone, how depends on what was run against us. You don't have to settle for jumpers when people zone. You can get to the basket still.
