WBB Official Game Thread -- CU at U of Denver

12-11 Buffs with 11:25 left in the half. Looks like Buffs had an 11-5 lead, but haven't scored much in the last few minutes.

Edit- looks like Buffs are at least winning the foul battle. 4 Pioneers with 2 fouls already.

23-17 Buffs at what I assume is another media TO. 7:25 left in the half.

Good to see that, after a quiet game last time out, Jamee Swan leading the Buffs in scoring with 10 points. Lexy Kresl with no points, but already 4 assists.

Look like a nice spurt by the Buffs in the last ~4:30, as they turn a 26-24 lead into a 38-27 one at the half.

Don't know her career high, but assume Jamie Swann may surpass it tonight, as she already has 17. Haley Smith already in double figures also with 10.

As I've mentioned I believe in every women's game thread so far, looks like giving up offensive boards is also a problem in this game- Buffs close in total boards (down 24-22), but have given up 13 offensive boards to DU while only getting 7 on their own.

There are a lot of nice pieces on this team and some significant areas for improvement (led by rebounding). They've got a good opportunity through much of their non-conference schedule to win while they learn. That's all that matters right now. Keep building the chemistry and improving to set up for Pac-12 play as a vastly better team than started this year with a resume that is Dance-worthy.

Looks like this one will be safely in the win column- Buffs up 70-48 with around 3 minutes left. Nice performance Buffs!

Stats showing Ms. Kresl with a double double (10 points/ 10 assists). Ms. Swann leading in scoring still with 23. (I looked at her roster bio quick, and it looks like she did score 25 points, so assuming CU may be emptying their bench with the score being what it is, she may not quite get to her career high.)

Definitely- I'm not in any way meaning to indicate defensive rebounding (or anything else this early in the season) is something terminal to the Buff's chances in conference and, hopefully, beyond. Just something they need to keep working on and improve a lot by, as you say, the start of and during conference. (If they don't improve, I'd say it will be a big issue when they start playing the stronger athletes in the Pac.)

Back to this game- assume Buffs have won! (Live Stats seems frozen- but Buffs showing up 77-49 with 16 seconds left.)

Edit-

24 assists on 32 shots. That's beautiful. Ended up out rebounding by 10 too. They can put a game together, and I think will be more tested when conference play rolls around than in previous years. Looking forward to Iowa already

As we know, this team will be tested big time in the Pac 12. Still wondering how they will do against Iowa in Iowa City. So far, that team has been on a tear and shoots well from 3 point land.

The DU game was definitely a tale of 2 halves (really the first 15 minutes and the last 25 minutes). The first part the Buffs were too sloppy and allowed DU to hang around. The second part the Buffs steamrolled the Pioneers. Also, although it was a road game, there were probably about 100 or so Buffs fans there, sitting mostly in one area of Magness so we were pretty loud. We were next to the exit that the players used to get to the locker room. After the hand shake line at the end of the game, Linda sent the players up into the stands to say hi and thank us for coming.

Regarding the next game vs Missouri State : that's the Buffs first game of the Thanksgiving tourney and its always set up so that CU plays the weakest of the other 3 teams the first day. That way they pretty much ensure that CU will get to the championship match. CU has lost that championship match at least once but they clearly want to avoid the possible embarrassment of not even making it to the championship game of their own tourney.

So the bus trip happened? I'm glad the players were sent to the stands to thank the fans. That is good pr as are the autograph signings.

Yeah the bus trip happened. It was a small bus with maybe 25 or so on it. The rest of the Buffs fans had gotten there on their own. Some were probably local to the Denver area. I for one was glad for the bus since I doubt I would have gotten there without it. And we let the lady coordinating the trip know to encourage them to continue to provide buses for close road games.

Great to hear. My friend said she would rather take the bus, so I would guess she was on it also. I know some Buff fans are from Denver so it would make no sense to go to Boulder to take a bus. Does if the Buffs are going north to play.
