The women host the traditional thanksgiving weekend 4 team tournament. First game tonight is TCU (3-1) vs CSU (2-1). A mixup this year as the only chance for us to play CSU is if we end up on the same side of the bracket (let's just call that the winning side). And though as a fan I'd rather see the game against little sister, I think TCU is the better team here. While CSU has beat up the likes of Mines, and lost to Hawaii, TCUs only loss is by 9 to #22 Georgia. TCU has a new coach, and I know pretty much nothing about their play. So I'd be ok with either match up for different reasons.
The second game is our Buffs against a winless Missouri State. Needless to say, we should expect to roll, but I think we can still watch for how this team handles the same problems we've been talking about, turnovers, fouls, and giving up offensive boards. Go buffs!

TCU's new coach has a CU connection, she's former Buff Reagan Scott who was a key member of number of teams including the almost Final 4 group. Her previous coaching stops were at Utah State and Fresno State.

Under their previous coach, Jeff Mittie (whose name came up during CU's last coaching search) TCU saw a lot of success. BTW, he's now at KSU.

I too would like to see a CU v CSU final, but as jsmilkst pointed out TCU could very well beat CSU today. CU should have no trouble with Missouri State - the school formerly known as Southwest Missouri State when they has a ton of success on the court. This was especially true when they had Jackie Stiles who I believe gave CU an official visit. On the other hand, in 1994 (IIRC) CU beat SWMoSt in an early round NCAA tourney game by something like 40 points. Missouri State doesn't seem to have the same mojo on the court. Perhaps they shouldn't have changed their name :)

Indeed, CU needs to continue to work on cutting down turnovers, rebound a bit better and of course not commit a zillion fouls. This is an important weekend for the Buffs as they really need to pile up non-conference wins if they want to give themselves a shot at an NCAA tourney at-large bid.

I wish I could be there tonight to see how Reagan Scott Pebley coaches. She built the Utah State program from a non-existent program to what it became and was successful at Fresno State. After KState fired their coach last season, they hired Mittie, who I think is a KState grad. I know he has ties to KState before they hired him. One of the players did not want to stay at KState and fought all summer to get a release. She finally got it but could not follow the previous staff, most of whom are at Northern Colorado.

TCU had a good program last year. I would think Reagan inherited a decent team and would predict they will beat CSU. I am like the others in wishing the final is CSU vs CU.

I will be watching online!

Haley smith appears to be consistently finding her groove, which she showed flashes of last year. 12 points already. Also, Lexy has seriously found her 3pt stroke this year, 11 in the first half. Buffs by 10

And also. ..playing CSU tomorrow at 730. Great time to use those free tickets that came with your men's season tix!

Random thoughts from a great distance:

• Nice job with cutting down on the turnovers - a total of ten along with 17 assists for the game.

• The final margin of victory was about the same as when Okie State defeated MSU recently, and OSU is rated #18.

• Haley Smith has a sweet pull-up mid-range jumper. It's a rare skill that will suit her and the team well.

• Jamee Swan scored her 14 points in something like only 17 minutes of playing time to go along with her 8 rebounds and 3 blocks. Very efficient.

• Nobody played more than 27 minutes, should set the team up will for tonight.

• What's up with Desiree Harris? She hasn't played at all this season. Injury? Something else?

Hope to read more later today from those in attendance.

Buff need to defeat CSU. Last season in Fort Collins it was too close. CU needs to play much better defense and rebound better as well than they did last year in this game.

When I was in the club room during my visit to Boulder and attended the first WNIT game, somebody asked why Desiree Harris was not playing. The response from Kelly Rae was a non comment of something like "it's the way the game went and then coaches' decision". Said nothing and I find it strange.

I will be watching online again tonight.
