Basketball/CEC Facilities

So this is my first post, but I saw something the other day and it got me thinking. So on Twitter, XJ posted something to the tune of the football team sucks and they don't deserve the new facilities and that the basketball team deserves a new stadium. A bunch of other players retweeted or favorited this tweet, so it seems like they support it. Obviously they just got brand new facilities a few years ago, but the CEC is outfated and ugly in my honest opionion. I agree that the CEC needs to be renovated, don't think we need a new stadium and I don't think we need to add seats since we don't even sell out most of our games and I think college arenas being around 10-15,000 capacity is more than fine. I also don't agree with the statement he had about the football team. I truly believe that a healthy athletic department needs a good competitive football team. There are a few teams: Duke, KU, and UK that can make basketball their priority but football is the king at most schools and is still a priority at those schools. So ultimately what I'm wondering is, are there any plans to renovate the CEC anytime soon? Or do you think George try's to redo the Flatiorns Club first? Also what would you guys like to be done to the CEC or even Folsom after this project is done?

XJ must not realize that the basketball team sucked before it got its practice facility.

I'm all for hoops getting more upgrades or even a new arena. But football is 1st in line and then some. Follow the money. Football is king.

This.

At this point in time, BBall may be the prized pig on campus but that pig is not impressing anyone this year. On top of that, football got that nice big TV contract. Not BBall. Know your place in life.

This just smacks of selfish immaturity. You better figure out where your bread is buttered, kid.

I don't blame the kids for being proud of what they have accomplished and wanting more. I actually applaud that. They should.

Envy and jealousy most often works the opposite of the way you want it to.

Be self aware. Know how this makes you look.

Eh, I didn't read that much in to his tweet (as far as insulting football) just said the winningest program should get some upgrades. Also did some nice back pedaling by him when someone mentioned skiing and cross country lol

Someone needs a lesson on economics... and by the looks of it English as well

But if you read the comments he then goes on to say the football team has to win some games before they get new facilities.

After we get the football team to respectability and bowl game app's(fingers crossed). I definitely agree on upgrading the CEC. New lighting system, concession areas, luxury seating, etc. Everyone wants to have the best and newest like Oregon, but it is not feasible when your football team hasn't brought home the bacon. Give it time.

XJ could learn a thing or two from XC. When Blake Theroux talked about winning a natty, he and the boys backed it up. Twice.

The entitlement sentiment sucks. CU just built BB a new practice facility.

BTW, XC doesn't even have a locker room (yet).

XJ aside, what I'd most like to see is the movement of the concession areas farther out from the concourse so the flow of people during half time is more efficient. Also, adding a permanent store for team gear what could be open before and after the game and perhaps on non-game days as well.

With scoreboards, it would be nice have ones large enough for real time stats.

Yes.

Basically, they need to build a ring around the existing structure and put all bathrooms, ticketing and concessions areas into that exterior ring.

I've said it before, CU has a rare opportunity with basketball to catch lightning in a bottle. Tad Boyle, aside from this years struggles, is the real deal. Double down and announce wide-sweeping renovations of the CEC. If CU really cared about football, there would be more pressure on a no-name coach with the last place recruiting class who just went 1-17 in-conference. They'll let football smolder another two years while neglecting to go all-in on basketball.
Just saying.

You had to go turn a reasonable post into a terrible post. Seems you are totally ignoring the financial side of things.

The CEC is a dump. I agree with that. But if we want to do some nice renovations than we probably have to have a long waiting list for BB tix. Is it that way now?

Wish there was more solidarity between the different Athletic programs. Shouldn't be a basketball vs football thing.

With that said, basketball does need upgrades, and I have to believe they are coming

People in Boulder and apparently even with in the program don't understand how athletics works in NCAA. Its irritating. Football has and will be for the foreseeable future, the king. A healthy football program generates the necessary revenue to provide upgrades around the AD. Coors will get its day, but Folsom needs fixed first. The team needs fixed first. Once we are filling folsom at 75% and up again, we will be able to afford the cost of updating the arena. Also in a couple years when we are receiving max Pac-12 money will help towards that goal as well.

XJ needs to focus on basketball and only basketball until the end of March.

BTW saw him at the Horse yesterday, didn't notice any limp or boot or anything, so I would assume he is alright.

The horse....ah the memories....As long as we are being honest, lets just admit most of the sports teams need facilities upgrades, whether the teams are good or they are bad really doesn't matter. If we want to compete in major professional...I mean college sports then we need to find a way. $$$$$ #T Boone PIckens #Phil Knight

But folks are right, logic would dictate that football has to be first, then basketball, then the other sports.... (Yes, I am blindly ignoring Title IX).

Basketball can have new facilities 25 years after they win a national championship. They just built them their equivalent of Dal Ward like 3 years ago. Kids these days and their entitlement attitudes.

i don't understand why the players care so much about the actual arena, not like they are buying concessions or watching the video boards. they have a new practice facility, locker room and weight room already where they spend the vast majority of their time.

So they can talk smack to their old high school opponents and teammates.

From going to the Volleyball games this weekend, looks like they "improved" the lighting system. Similar to what has been discussed before, with the floor lit up and the seats in the dark.

Not sure what they look like from the floor, but I found them to be distracting in the first couple rows.
