So, the Buffs start their Southern California swing against the talented but young Bruins at Pauley Pavilion.

cubuffs.com preview of the game- http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=209877696

A little bit about UCLA from that preview:

"
UCLA is 8-13 overall and tied with Washington State for sixth place in the Pac-12 at 4-6. The Bruins have lost their last four, coming off of road losses to Oregon (67-65) and No. 7 ranked Oregon State (82-64). UCLA’s schedule has been a who’s-who of college women’s basketball, facing eight ranked teams including four in the Top 10 in Texas, Notre Dame, UConn and Oregon State. The Bruins average 65.4 points per game on 39 percent from the field. Opponents average 69.9 points per game on 40 percent from the field.

All Pac-12 guard Nirra Fields leads UCLA at 14.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game. Freshman guard Jordin Canada averages 11.1 points per game, ranking second on the squad in scoring and steals (34). Sophomore backcourt mate Kari Korver is UCLA’s top 3-point shooter with 40 on the season and at 39 percent. She averages 10.7 points and 3.9 rebounds an outing.

Also, wanted to highlight a couple things about Buff senior guard Lexy Kresl-

1) Off the court, a HUGE congrats to her for being just named to the ""Capital One Academic All-District 7 Women’s Basketball team" as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)", one of only nine players to have earned this honor over 14 Midwestern states! (Per http://www.cubuffs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=209877673 )

2) On the court, per the preview linked to in the orig. post, "Senior guard Lexy Kresl is just 19 points from becoming the 27th player in team history to reach 1,000 points." So, good luck to her obtaining that milestone, ideally Friday night. (Although I'm sure she'll be more than happy with the win either way.)

Another note on this season: the Pac is super top heavy. 4 teams above .500 in conference play. We're sitting in 9th, 2 games out of 5th,and definitely been playing better ball lately. This weekend is pretty key. We Still play asu and osu who are having monster years, but every other game is weak (relative). We pull together down the stretch and we might still make a little something of this season

Ouch- looks from the stats a tough start to the game- 11-0 UCLA with the Buffs not having scored in the 1st 5-1/2 minutes.

34-22 UCLA at the half. Just looking at the stats, looks like turnovers are KILLING the Buffs- they already have 18 at the half, and have been outscored 18-4 in points off turnovers.

1:12 buffs now down 3. And radio is pretty pissed at the offensive foul call that ended the buffs last possession

Crap. This is #thescript for the women. Haven't been able to close, despite several good comebacks.

I gave up at half time and watched Arizona State make a huge comeback to beat Stanford. ASU got the sweep on the trees this year.

Jen Reese has disappeared. Haley Smith has disappeared. Would like to know what is going on with those two players in particular. We don't have a true point guard. Kresl does her best, but that is not her best position.

Seriously. Beginning of the year, Haley was on fire. You know Lexy and Jamee are getting theirs, and you would've thought be basically go 5 real scoring threats, but hasn't panned.

At this point of the season, the team can only count on Lexy and Jamee. That does not win games. Need to have 4 or 5 players in double figures to win. This team seems to be regressing, not progressing.

Saw that Lappe said the team had a bad week in practice last week and bad practices lead to losses. Hope the team learned their lesson. They play the game.
