This was an embarrassment to CFB. Both teams were at fault here even though it was a hurricane that started it.

I think it was jeff brunner who was dragging a hurricane around by the helmet in the endzone. I think The Rock was a benchwarmer for miami at the time. I remember Micheal Westbrook got kicked out of the game. Then after he changed he came out and sat behind CU's bench for the rest of the game. Bill Marolt was ready to kick those ref's asses during the game.

He deserved to be kicked out, he swung his helmet like a weapon at a Miami player already on the ground. I couldn't stand him from then on.

That did suck. Losing a key player like Westbrook hurt - but in the end showed us his true colors.

That brawl was awesome. I was in the student section that day and it was quite a sight to behold.

Nope...

Westbrook did the running drop kick in the endzone.... he started out at the 30 and got a running start and drilled a guy.

He did deserve to get kicked out.

Ray Lewis and the Rock were on this Miami team.

Marolt wanted a word with the refs for the offensive facemask at the end of the game.

That offensive facemask cost us the game..too bad that call was made.

That's one way to put it. I remember watching him screaming at the zebras. I think he almost got kicked out himself. And it wasn't only one penalty. Those umps were horrible. They made bad calls all game long.

I knew Westbrook when he was in Boulder. He was very shorttempered even in practice. But he was a good person. And screw stephen davis.

I think Marolt's first trip to the sidelines was in the first half, after Miami scored a TD off a blatant hold on the corner that was not called, and led directly to the ballcarrier breaking loose.

To this day, the worst officiated game I have EVER seen... :sad2:

No ****! I was there too. We have to get back to those days. We were on the verge of the mNC. You gotta have some thugs on your team to achieve that. Jusk ask the Land Thieves. :smile2:

SEC officials, right?

Nope. Big East. Miami's conference. The deal was Miami brought their corrupt thieves, er officials, to Boulder, and CU would have Big XII officials at the Orange Bowl. Unfortunately, after CU got ****ed in Boulder, the return game was never played. Not that Big XII (actually, probably 8 then..) officials have ever been friendly to CU anyway... :sad2:

We were in the Big 8 back then and the 'return' game was played a couple years ago.

Anybody else notice Trevor Pryce walking through the crowd with his hands on his hips?

I remember last season when a former U player was commentating a Miami game in which there was another brawl, and he was taunting from the mic saying, "You dont' come in the U and disrespect us like that!" Ummmm...isnt' that what Miami did here?

Nothing was called for as far as fighting is concerned, but they escalated the thing beyond where it needed to go.

Westbrook was out, but didn't we have Rae Carruth out there, too? His reputation is STELLAR! :)

Yeah, I realized the Big 8 thing halfway through. Too lazy to go back and change the post - the point is the same either way.

Was the game a couple years ago actually in return for that game, or was it a separate contract? I really thought the return game had been cancelled, due to the brawl or possibly some other reason...

I doubt that was Pryce. He was 18 in 1993 and probably just enrolling at Michigan. The Broncos didn't draft him out of Clemson until 1997.

I can't remember, but was CJ still there in 93? Or was that the year after he graduated and Carruth took over. And btw, Carruth's reputation at the time WAS stellar. It took some major hits after he left CU, though...

I am not sure the officials in the 1993 CU/Miami game were from the Big East. They may have been from another conference all together.

Although the final outcome was crappy, and we had the nasty brawl in the game-- that was really a pretty fun game to go to.

OK, I looked it up, because that was a pretty big part of my memory of that cluster****, that the officials were from Miami's conference. And they were.

Erickson says teams feel as if they have to prove the Hurricanes don't intimidate them That's where trouble starts. The players exchanged pregame shoves near the Miami sideline. Others saw Miami players and managers make gestures toward the crowd that ranged from being cocky to being vulgar. Then came the brawl.
Miami quarterback Frank Costa directed a textbook two-minute drill to a touchdown that put the Hurricanes ahead 21-6 with 20 seconds remaining in the half. Scott Barnwell lucked the ball out of the end zone. At the Miami 35, Colorado freshman linebacker Allen Wilbon blocked Miami freshman linebacker Antonio Coley to the ground. They continued after the whistle.
Teammates saw them, benches emptied and for the next five minutes, players took more cheap shots than a week's worth of "Hard Copy."
Fistfights broke out all over the field. Miami players shoved their coaches aside to swing at opponents. Three Colorado player pinned Miami defensive end Kevin Patrick the end zone. Tight end Garrett Ford ripped Patrick's face mask askew. Reserve guard Gerald Ancar threw a punch into Patrick's groin.
Buddy Ward, referee of the Big East Conference crew, says the officials quickly became overwhelmed. The melee reduced them to taking numbers of players who committed flagrant fouls.
The officials ejected seven Miami players, including two starters, and five Buffaloes, among them starting wide receiver Michael Westbrook and starting cornerback Dennis Collier.

I think you're correct in that the original return game was canceled, or at least put on hold for many years. I don't recall.

But the main point should be: Miami ****ing sucks.

I remember that game vividly (somehow). CJ was, in fact there. Kordell's 4th down pass attempt to CJ on the last play of the game was high, CJ got hands on it but was FREAKING mugged. No call. Game over.

Dildos promptly thrown on to the field in disgust (not kidding)

Does anyone remember that fat old Miami dude that walked along the bottom walkway of the horseshoe the whole game, drunk as hell, taunting all of the students with his hat; waving it this way and that? Funniest **** I ever saw...he got too close to a student who then stole his hat and threw it 30 rows up..the dude, I am not making this up, sprints up the aisle after the hat, falls into the row of students and begins to swing wildly...needless to say he was escorted out, hatless and bruised.

love it.

I was in sect 120 in the first couple of rows. I was only 13 at the time. I remember Marolt going nuts in the endzone. he was screaming at the refs. I thought it was Brunner or Bunner who was dragging that miami player around by his fasmask. I also remember Warren Sapp talking alot of **** the whole game. **** the u.

The return game was postponed by CU BECAUSE Miami went on probation and could not be on TV. That was in CU's contract. CU rescheduled the return trip on a mutually agreeable date when they could after Miami's probation period.
