I am excited about the future of our offense

There were some freshman mistakes like the fumbled snap, but the stars of the game on offense were: RS FR Hawkins, RS FR Summler, RS FR McNight. Think what this group can do once they gain experince!
Now, if we can get some help on D, calling Jon Major, we need you!

I said this in chat last night. Hawkins is a big upgrade at QB, and having that level of play or higher for 4 years will be nice. Sumler looked great. McKnight is exciting, and the three touted kids at receiver - Celestine, Simas and Smith - didn't even make a dent yesterday. Get those three up and running with this offense and LOOK OUT BIG XII! Also don't want to forget the TEs and the young guys up front, including Miller when he gets ready to go. The future's so bright, I gotta .

did anybody else notice that the fumble was not hawkins fault. It looked to me like the center, Sanders, was eager to make up for the mistake on the false start play before when he didnt hike the ball. On the previous play he was the only one who didnt move, everyone else moved in unison. It just seemed like he was a little confused on that series. IMO

Growing pains... I'm still intrigued and excited for the season.

I think that if we can develop some depth and cohesion on the line, this offense has the potential to be extremely good over the next couple years. Simas, Celestine, Smith, McKnight, Geer, Gates, Sumler, Hawkins. Those are some serious playmakers.
(Ok, I don't really know how good Gates is, but by all accounts, the dude is a freak).

I would really love to know what happened there. I thought I heard a couple whistles from somewhere right as Cody was starting to call the signals. It was almost like he glanced around for them, kept calling the signals, then started moving (not sure if to audible, or it was going to be a trick play, or he thought the ball was dead because of the whistles, or what other thing might have been happening...). Obviously, it's on him to know what's going on, so I'm not blaming the whistle, even if there was one. But I am curious if it might have factored in somehow...

Gates is gone, isn't he???

I know this sour grapes maybe on my part. But I still wish Hawk would have kept Hankowitz around as his D coordinator. We had a very very good D the last year that staff was here, and I would have loved to keep that scheme going. I like the way Hank called his D and the packages he put on the field. Under Hawk and the talent he will bring in Hank could have been a dominating D coordinator again.

I know it's early and maybe the will turn it around at some point, but I saw the same trends in D against CSU that I saw last year. Very conservative, no rush, on 3rd and long, and the opposing team just ate it up. WE HAVE TO STOP PEOPLE ON 3RD DOWN or we will be in trouble again.

All that said. I loved most of what I saw out of our offense. 1000% improvement over last year. This O is going to be exiting to watch as time goes on.

That was a third on Cody, a third on Sanders and a third on the ref. It was a shotgun snap, so I think it was based on timing after the whistle. The ref blew the ****ing whistle like 4 times to get the clock going. That was ridiculous. It confused Cody, so he looked over at the ref to see what the last whistle was. As he looked back Sanders snapped the ball, based off of the timing from one of the other whistles. Actually I take it back. that was mostly on the ref. You can't blow 3-4 whistles just to wind the clock, it confuses everyone on the field.

:yeahthat: You saved me some typing there. :smile2:

I just want to see the Oline pass protect a little better. Cody took a beating yesterday. He's a tough kid but he will get hurt and be out before season's end if they can't protect him a little better. Other than that, I'm uber pumped about our O this season!
