Buffs in the 2016 Rio Olympics

look at those abs!

Is that Emma just behind her?

Yep (confirmed per the tagging (if that's what it's called?) of the same picture in Instagram, with the other young woman partially visible in the background being Buff alum and fellow Olympic Trial runner Jessica Tebo).

Goes to show there really is something special in the water up in Boulder.

Great read. Simpson and Colburn interview really dials into their mind frame getting ready for Rio.

Looks like Olympians get a huge amount of clothing for either the coming years and/ or gifts for friends and family!

For those who want to expand their Olympic rooting beyond Buff athletes to all Pac 12 representatives, there's an article (http://pac-12.com/article/2016/08/01/pac-12-sends-impressive-contingent-rio-games) and roster (http://static.pac-12.com/sports/pdf/Pac-12Rio-Olympians.pdf) of Pac 12 athletes going to Rio.

For the Buffs, this thread had already noted 3 track athletes going, but per the roster there is a 4th Buff to root for, Flora Duffy, who will be representing Bermuda in the triathlon. Best of wishes to her!
(I know NOTHING about triathlon tours, rankings and so forth, but per https://bdatriathlonnews.com/2016/05/03/flora-heads-to-boulder/comment-page-1/ , she is currently ranked number 1 (or at least was on May 3 when the article was written) in the ITU World Triathlon Series and is the defending XTerra World Champion, so assume she has high Olympic aspirations/ expectations.)

In general, as can be expected of the "Conference of Champions", there are LOTS of Pac people representing (From the article)-

Renowned for its tradition of excellence at the Summer Olympics, the Pac-12 Conference, with its 12 member institutions, will be well-represented again at the Games. When the XXXI Olympiad begins on Friday, August 5 with the Opening Ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 273 athletes, coaches and other officials with ties to Pac-12 institutions will be among those participating in the 17-day event. In addition to representing Pac-12 member schools, Olympians will also be representing 44 countries in 22 sports.

Of the 273 Pac-12 delegates, 140 go as part of the U.S. contingency. Of the 554 athletes named to Team USA, 118 are from Pac-12 schools, making up over 21 percent of the U.S. roster. For the second time in history, the Team USA roster will feature more female athletes than male and nearly a quarter of those female athletes have Pac-12 ties (69), including returning Olympic champions Missy Franklin (CAL), Katie Ledecky (STAN) and Kerri Walsh Jennings (STAN). Additionally, five women’s soccer players from the Conference will help Team USA defend its gold medal, as will the 12 water polo players that attend, will attend or are alumni of Pac-12 institutions. The number of women Pac-12 athletes on Team USA is testament to the Conference’s strength in women’s athletics.

On the men’s side, 18 percent of the Team USA roster are Pac-12 affiliated athletes (48), including returning Olympic champion and world record holder in the decathlon Ashton Eaton (ORE). Swimmer Nathan Adrian (CAL) also returns to defend his gold from the London Olympic Games and basketball NBA players Klay Thompson (WSU) and DeMar DeRozan (USC) will help Team USA go for gold again.

I just started a new thread (https://www.allbuffs.com/threads/bu...dules-information-and-race-discussion.118785/) to cover more details of the actual Buffs races (such as schedules, discussion of the races and their results, etc.). Before I transition over to that thread-

Good luck to Ms. Simpson in her 1st round heat tomorrow!

And, looks like she and Emma Coburn are not having it too rough.

And, from Ms. Coburn, looks like they have a great (or at minimum great location) track to train and stay loose on-

(As noted in more detail in the other thread, Ms. Coburn's 1st round race is on early this Saturday, 8/13.)
