Once again, it's all relative. Saying MM's teams are more mentally tough is relative to the teams coached by the previous regimes, not the rest of the conference or other teams around the nation.
This is the point I keep trying to make and obviously failing - it should be relative to the PAC 12 not to some very low standard.

I'd say any team that can lose so many heartbreakers and continue to play hard has some grit...they just haven't had enough to make them Ws.

Given the fact that recruiting is looking better than it has in years does RG still fire MM if he falls short of the "6 win and a bowl game" hurdle supported by some?

Does RG risk losing some of these recruits by firing MM if he falls short of the " 6 win progress" goal?

A small piece of what's at risk:
2 recent OL verbal commits, Polley and Sherman, have more P5 offers than all of the rest of the OLs on the roster combined (that signed NLI's with CU coming out of high school).

If he somehow holds on to a top 25 class with only 5 wins, then I think he has a good chance at staying. Anything less, he needs to go.

Don't lower the bar in July.

MacIntyre is expected to qualify for a bowl game in 2016.

I hope the standard is still bowl game or bust.. but, I have to say, given how recruiting is going, if we only get 5 wins and RG keeps him, I don't think I'll be freaking out.

I hope and expect for the conversation to be moot. My mind is on success instead of stressing out trying to decide what degree of failure is acceptable to me.

I was wondering when this subject was going to get bumped again. Funny how such improvements in class ranking change people's minds.

With things now going the right direction for a change I'm opposed to doing anything that could hurt landing this class. For a change were about to sign some difference makers. Mac finally made the right coaching adjustments.

The only scenario I see is promoting Leavitt on the spot if Mac was let go and the balance of the staff mostly remaining.

This needs to be updated in a major way. At this point, if the recruiting class is maintained, even with only three wins Mac will get at least one more year.

I still can't believe folks would call for a AD to keep a coach based solely on recruiting site's star ratings...We need a bowl game.

Agreed that wins need to come, but if there is an obvious uptick in talent acquisition then it would only be a matter of time until this close losses start turning into close wins once the talent gap is erased. Essentially, progress is being made in a critical pillar of program building and it may not be best to start over from scratch. Worst case scenario is if MM still doesn't get the W's in a year or two, the program is in a much better place for the next guy.

I see your point. However, the problem is that all this is just to get to 6 wins which we should have by now... This is year 4. I believe we will get there. However, recruiting classes take a couple of years to materialize. Also, keep in mind that coaching changes happen in December. If we retain Mac after a 4-5 win season, we still have the risk of losing some recruits before signing day in February. And that would be disastrous - losing the class and being stuck with a coach that can't get the team to compete in the pac12 or a bowl game. I am of course speaking hypothetically. I think Mac gets us to a bowl game this year.

Also keep in mind that we had a top 35 recruiting class with Embree exactly 4 years ago.

Let's have a little perspective. For a program that was used to recruiting at the bottom of the conference, this feels like some magical recruiting class - it's not. In reality this is a decent Pac 12 class that should be the norm.

The class is huge which will help the ranking, but on average stars we're currently 9th in conference. This type of class should be expected and if Mac was replaced I would expect the next coach to do at least this well. Being a terrible recruiter for 3 years is making this class look like something magical.

I'm still firmly of the opinion that Mac needs to make a bowl this year to keep his job.

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying with this post. Not mad either way, just want clarification.

Pretty much exactly what my post said. Having read posts on here regarding recruiting for the last several years, I have no idea what people actually expect year to year in recruiting.

Always dangerous (and inaccurate) to generalize the "opinion of the 'people'" based on who happens to be posting at that particular moment.

Ok. That's fair, and I don't think it's really calling anyone out for their opinions. Personally, given the facilities upgrades and and other things CU has going for it, we should be pulling a top 25 class every year. Need to get a few wins this year though.

I think the expectation is clearly bowl or bust, but I don't think it's as black and white as some make it out to be.

Since Rick George's background is in recruiting my suspicion is he'd be sympathetic to the positive changes of the last year.

The key for Mike Mac is reversing last years trend where the offense took a step backwards. Hence the staff shakeup over there. If thats reversed and the team takes one, hopefully two steps forward, I think he's pretty safe (assuming the defense also doesn't reverse). Those steps forward likely result in more wins to be true steps.

That said Im still glass half empty on the OL and the lake of a difference maker at WR and what some claim is a harder schedule this year. I guess if you make it about the WL column solely MacIntyre is essentially fired already. But I dont think that will be the totality of the decision.

2013 Colorado 4–8 overall, 1–8 conference 6th (South)
2014 Colorado 2–10 overall, 0–9 conference 6th (South)
2015 Colorado 4–9 overall, 1–8 conference 6th (South)

Beating CSU, Idaho State, Oregon State and maybe finally *UCLA (plus either WSU or Utah) would put MM in the gray area of more conference wins but still no bowl.

*Insert your favorite team to finally beat since there are so many to chose from.

I do not put much stock in individual recruiting stars but I do believe class ranking against our peers are meaningful. I expect us to be able to compete for football recruits against our conference peers and I don't see any reason that CU shouldn't be consistently in the Top 5 in recruiting in the conference. We use to beat out ASU, Oregon, UW and UCLA for recruits all of the time - USC was a little tougher.

I firmly believe that coaching involves 3 main components - having your team ready to play on game day, recruiting, and in game adjustments with first two being more important than the third (40-40-20 split). A really good coach has to be excellent a one of the first two and solid in the other. A great coach is excellent in both of the first two.

Having a good recruiting class does not justify keeping a coach that does not win.

Going back to the poll, other than a complete melt down (going winless in conference) Rick George is not going to fire MacIntyre. I believe the enthusiasm has left the main fan base and there is little pressure to make change. I don't like this approach but I really believe that is the AD's approach.
