A serious lift for the Offense. Now if only B Jackson could get himself academically eligible

Coach Dan Hawkins said Sunday he expects true freshman wide receiver Josh Smith to make his debut when Florida State comes to town. Hawkins said he also expects starting tailback Hugh Charles to return after missing the ASU game with a strained hamstring.

I have a lot more faith in Charles than I do Sumler. Sumler is a FR though so you can't beat on him too much. It was only his second game.

Getting some more speed on the field will be great. If Hugh is healthy I think he and Sumler will make a great 1-2 inside/outside combo. Add Smith into Williams, McKnight, and Celestine with Geer and the other TEs and that's a lot of options for Cody to go to.

But, all these weapons will be worthless if the OLine can't play better than they did on Saturday. We had no push at the point of attack all night.

I"d give Williams one more shot, and if he drops it - stop throwing to him the entire game. Even if he catches it, I'd be hesitant to throw to him. I'm really disappointed that Celestine didn't catch his TD pass too.

I hear Smith has hands, but what about Simas? Simas was supposed to be the best of the bunch - at least route running and hand wise, he was supposed to be great.

Yeah no kidding, where is simas? I had the highest hopes for him outa the freshmen when he signed. Obviously JFly has taken that but still.

I think they might be trying to redshirt Simas. No knock on him at all, but with Smith and Celestine seeing early action, they might want to hold on to Simas for an extra year.

I think anytime you have the ability to RS someone it is best. Simas would be a great addition but it's too early in the season to yank it if we went downthe drain like last year. (Not going to happen of course)

Have any of the freshman o-line guys played yet? We are going to be hurting if we try to go without playing any of them this year and they have to play every offensive snap with no relief from backups. Plus, the best few backups should be getting some trash time at the end of games so they can build the actual live game experience levels.

Palazzi is the only freshman to play so far. One of the recent articles in the Camera said that the same 5 o-linemen have played every snap so far this season, but they're planning on getting Miller and Maiava involved soon.

Kendrick Celestine has also played. He was one of the guys who dropped a TD pass against ASU. :sad1:

Smith and Charles were both listed as day to day today with Smith supposed to return to practice for the first time today.

Just what we need. Another Freshman.

Well, when you don't have any upperclassmen as options (one of the two is out for some reason--forget which), then you either leave the starters in for every snap of every game, or get the freshmen in there once in a while and give them some practice and give the starters a breather. Not much choice we have right now.

Despite all the hype, I don't expect Smith to come in and be lights out at this point. That very rarely happens with freshmen. I don't think we should look at him as an instant savior.

From reading an article in the BDC today, I'm having a hard time believing that Smith will be full go for the game. He hasn't taken any type of contact since the injury (which worries me since that normally means the player is pretty cautious on the field), it sounded like he's just getting back to conditioning and practicing (which I figure means fairly limited playing time on Saturday).

I just don't think he'll be able to give us much for this game. Hope I'm wrong though, he's a player.
