Did Ryan Miller play tonight?

Inquiring minds want to know. Didn't see him, but heard rumors he might in the pregame press.

Pretty sure he didn't. I hope we don't have to burn his redshirt this year.

Looked like the same OL that's been played the past two games..

They played Lockridge which I really don't understand..

Of course Smith caught a pass..

Other than that, I didn't see any other true freshman..

It's hard to see how they are going to make it through the season playing the same five o-linemen every minute of every game. But if they can redshirt him without taking a step back on the field and without getting Cody killed , that's good news for 5yrs from now.

I think he should play if he's ready. The time for saving players is over. If he's the best option for the team, for God's sake put him in there. Get him some game experience.

Denver Post ....

Offensive line coach Jeff Grimes said Sunday the chances of true freshmen Ryan Miller and Kai Maiava making their college debuts Saturday against Miami (Ohio) have improved.

I would be shocked if he is ready. O-Line is the toughest position to come in and play well. You have to be a man, so to speak. Not that Ryan Miller isn't but he will be much more of a man, say 35 pounds more, next year. I say, don't blow his redshirt, give him time to develop and then unleash a beefed up stronger version next fall!

Well, if Miller can provide our O-line with some stepped up play, put him in. USC is starting a true freshman at center and we all saw what that o-line did against the vaunted (ha ha!) ****er pinkskirt defense.

I am with wyo keep the redshirts on:
Simas, Miller, Tau

It will help us in the long run

It's Ryan's call. Miller is one of those guys who could just as easily bail to the NFL early as stick around for all 5 years.

It would suck if he red-shirted, only to leave CU during his Junior year.

Although the economics of being a lineman is such that I wouldn't second guess any decission he might make to "show me the money".

We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

I say play him if but only if he's an improvement to the line. The future of a player, especially a lineman, is very uncertain so if he's good enough to get in then put him in and let him live his dream. We have no idea how long we will get the keep him with injuries, a potential NFL career, etc.

Remember when we landed Schrader and everyone thought he was going to be a huge stud for us? I really hope Miller ends up being the 5 star stud we hope he will be and not another Markeesha but you never know. If the coaches think he can help I'd rather find out sooner rather than later if he's the real deal.

Yep unless they are a huge upgrade over whats there now, keep the redshirt on them.

I agree. Although the o-line is so thin (have any of the 5 starters been out for even a play yet? Johnson and Zim didn't seem to think so Saturday night...) that it might be necessary to burn a redshirt or two just to have adequate depth as the season goes along. And if Miller is eventually going to be needed this season, it would be good to get him some live snaps this weekend.

And after the last couple weeks, it is not hard to imagine Miller being an upgrade over what we have seen at the OT spots, one in particular...

I agree. Get them in there. The OL isn't going to be 100% healthy for the whole year. Ain't gonna happen. So let's get the backups some reps. Or, if they're better than the starters, get them in there. I don't care if they're a freshman. Play the best players.

IN a way it's the coaching staff's fault that we are so small on o-line numbers. They had 3 or 4 guys leave when Hawk came on board and should have gone the juco route for at least 2 or 3 of them last year...they didn't need to be stars we just needed live bodies that had some experience

Why isnt Faatagi playing? academics?

He finished a 6 week long summer school class in 2.5 weeks, but the prof won't grade his work until it's due, so he gets to wait. Granted, he shouldn't have waited that long to take the course, but it's pretty weak on the part of the professor.

Maybe they should send Sipili after the prof!:smile2:

I think I read something that said under the rules the prof can only grade a certain amount of work per week. For instance if it's a 6 week course they can only grade through week 3 after the third week and so on. So under the rules, I don't think he has a choice.

Could be, the article I read made it sound like it was the prof's choice, but you could be right. Like I said, either way he shouldn't have waited until July or August to take a class that he needed to be eligible.

That's how some of those classes work. Not much the prof can do in that case.

The guys that walked were never going to see the field which is why they walked. Our history of getting jucos qualified sucks, how much time and effort should the coaching staff put into those kids vs chasing the younger stars?

well we'll see...I bet if a couple of hogs go down this year the coaches would have wished that they spent a bit of their time securing some JUCOs until they built up 3 or 4 recruiting classes.

I'd imagine the coaching staff did try to find some JUCO linemen that (1) had the skill set they wanted (2) could qualify to play at CU and (3) were not going someplace else.

It's not like they snap their fingers and a player magically appears. There are too few scholies in college football these days to spend them on players who aren't the right fit.

I suspect a couple of the freshmen will have to play this year. There is no way the 5 OL starters can keep up this pace.

I think it would be prudent to play more than 5 O-Linemen throughout the course of the year. Get some younger guys some game experience, but at the same time give the five starters a breather from time to time.

The problem is qualification, we have a horrible record at getting JUCOs in unlike a lot of our competition. I don't doubt the scoured the JUCO ranks but if the kids aren't going to qualify or be questionable the coaches probably decide that they could make better use of their efforts elsewhere.
