all things positive thread

back for the weekly tradition:

my take:

* coaching adjustments were made appropriately.
* team cohesion.
* the buffs simply would not give up. this recurring trend was bound to see us to a fantastic victory eventually. did it ever.
* fans standing practically a whole half. (we can work on improving that).
* ubt and i survived the game without a homicide or divorce.

What did you like about yesterday´s game? Stay positive and share it with us.

I think the Denver Post said it best:

The Grades - By Tom Kensler
OFFENSE

A: Rolling up 381 yards against what had been the nation's fifth-
ranked defense and maintaining possession of the ball for 38 minutes and 54 seconds - we'll overlook two Cody Hawkins interceptions that came off tipped passes.

DEFENSE

A: To pull off the upset, Colorado absolutely had to limit an Oklahoma offense to less than half its per-game average of 61.5 points. Nobody had come close to slowing down the Sooners - until Saturday.

SPECIAL TEAMS

A: Everybody contributed: Terrence Wheatley on kickoff returns, Chase McBride on punt returns and kicker Kevin Eberhart with the winning field goal. Any questions?

OVERALL

A: Upsets of this magnitude don't happen every afternoon. Heck, they don't happen every decade. CU coach Dan Hawkins looks forward to the day when this will not be called an upset.

Who is this Smart kid? Cabral is the best LB coach around. Turns walk-ons into studs.

T. Wheatley is a fantastic shutdown corner. Their #1 receiver had how many passes? That's right: 0. He had the tackle of the game when he saw the ball, came off his guy and tackle the receiver who DROPPED the pass to sustain the OU drive. Not to mention he can return kickoffs really well.

McBride has vision and can return punts very well.

J. Dizon. Enough said.

Our defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage very well against a line that is supposed to be one of the best in country.

How many first downs did they get? How many of those were in the first half?

I LOVE how we didn't go with an all out air-attack when we were 17 pts behind. That's always the easy thing to do. We played good ol' smash mouth football and wore them down. We beat a team that is supposed to be more talented by being physical and playing as a team. Everyone stepped up when they were needed: Eberhart, Charles, Hawkins (both son and dad), Wheatley, ... the list goes on and on.

Our true freshmen on the line are going to be great. For the first time in a VERY long time I watched the lines to see the blocking. Some guys are great at run blocking and some are great at pass blocking. We are going to be really good next year and freaking great the year after that.

Our running schemes are great.

Jeff Smart - walk on from BOULDER HIGH SCHOOL!!!

Truth be told, he was a pretty good linebacker at BHS, but I would have never expected him to play D-1 football. There's a kid there now named Pericek who is a freak. Hits like a truck. Actually, BHS has three kids on the team who I could see playing D-1 ball, one of them being the quarterback.

I'll post more on that later.

All things positive - I'm still buzzing from that game. It's been compared to the 1986 CU/NU game and I think that's a very appropriate comparison. In 1986, NU was the class of the league and we stuck it to them in every phase of the game.

Things "+"

Overcoming loss and injury to players, and remaining competitive:

Haven't taken a snap.
B-Jax
Faatagi
Sipili

Overcoming injury or suspension
Josh Smith
Hugh Charles
Riar Geer
Chris Perri

Last week didn't Celestine and McKnight have concussions? OU was Scotty's least productive game. Up to this point, McKnight was CU's most reliable receiver. I'm guessing this was due to an injury during in the Miami game.

Being able to rotate players who are ready to play into contributing roles is a big postitive for the team.

It was special to see Hugh, Sprague, DeVree, Ellis and Patrick Williams step up against OU when he they were needed.

Injury / suspension has not been an excuse for performance. This is impressive.

Patrick Williams holding on to what was probably the most important pass of the game with a defender cutting in front of him. A definite plus.

Give credit to Cody for having the confidence in Patrick to throw him the ball in that situation. It looked like Cody could have run for the first down if he had wanted to.

ya but I did take a pretty good beating most of the game, and almost lost my OU cap....

oh ya, I need to burn that cap when I get home in the morning.... wore it to the Fiesta Bowl... loss.... wore it Saturday..... loss... it burns this morning...

Nah, better hang on to it for the next CU game :smile2:

All things positive: These guys are a team, it is probably cliche but you just get the feeling last years frustrations brought this team together and gave them a resiliance to overcome adversity. They seem to have a tremendous determination to pull themselves out of that hole they were in and make a place for themselves in CU history. I think they did on Saturday when most everyone, even some Buff fanatics had by and large counted them out. I see as all things positive a true team mentality which is something many teams never really have and the cornerstone for the future being laid in place.

All things positive -

Sacky's tailgate.
P. Will holding on to the ball
The dropped punt and the Buffs getting ball
3rd and 4th down conversions by the Buffs
Stopping the Sooners with 3 minutes left (more specifically, the hit on the OU reciever to knock the ball out of his hands.)
Watching the students rushing the field.

Everyone's positives were great.

My only addition: I loved that after we won Hawk was cool. He didn't freak or jump up and down. In a very unanimated voice he was like, "I told these guys all week we were going to win...". I love his even keeled "stay off the mountain tops and out of the valley" attitude. He get's it. This was a great win for sure, but there's still a long way to go.

Although Hawk ought to tape down his nipples. They were about to rip out of his shirt! Methinks he was a bit excited.

Re: all things positive thread

With all of the focus on Wheatley (who was awsome), I'd like to give credit to Burney. Everyone knew he'd get picked on this year. He got abused in the CSU and ASU games but he has stepped up and come back solid. Very good game against OU.

Well said SJBuff and well said Hawk. He was perfect after the game, said all the right things and made me very proud! I am still on cloud 9, and reading everything and anything I can find on this game.

Hugh Charles was great! They gave him the ball over and over and it paid off! He did take his lumps but when we needed him most he was banging away and wearing down a great defense.

What a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hugh Charles, first game i've seen him with running back eyes. He was seeing the entire field instead of his planned lane. There was a pic of him in the Camera and his eyes were huge.

Cody keeping cool in crunch time.

The Hawaiian Hippy. Absolutely nasty!
