This is the problem with Cody and Dan

Cody has looked bad the last two games. He's shown, however, flashes of good. But here we are. We are at a point where the media assholes will start writing those, "Dan should bench his son" columns. It could get a bit dicey. I still think Cody is our best QB. But the grass is always greener on the other side.

this is probably true, but we are where we are. hawkins knew if he started his kid that increased criticism could result.

i think c-hawk gives us the best chance to win right now. pulling him for another guy who hasn't seen any meaningful time is a bad idea, imho.

the guy has definitely struggled but so have the other young'uns. j-smith dropped that pass that might have saved the game for us. the o-line has looked brutally inconsistent with all the young guys on it. and we've got talent issues in the middle of the d.

we've just got to hope they can will their way to 2 more wins and a bowl game.

Way too conservative.....try to get the ball downfield, for god's sake.

I mean, he has speed with Josh and Celestine....throw deep at least once a quarter.

I had the same thought as Cody seemed out of synch with the receivers - not blaming anyone but I wondered if they would give #2 a few snaps just to change the chemistry. Cody has the heart of a winner though; I really thought he would bring them back

I also mean, I would give my left nut for the Buffs to get back to were they deserve to be...at the top of the Big 12!

Why did they give up on Hugh Charles? Again a frustrationg I have had for 3 years through 2 head coaches. The guy needs the ball and you can guarandamntee he will break some long ones. The fumble was a big mistake but with a guy like Hugh you can't punish him and not give him carries.

TT game is key. If Cody continues to make poor decisions in the TT game I have no problem with the staff turning to Nelson. Nelson may have limited experience in this system, but he does have 2 years under him in the JuCo ranks. That experience may translate into better decisions on the field.

I am not giving up on Cody though. He is just showing what happens when you have a young QB surround by a young team.

Agree - that reachy the ball deal doesn't give you much and is begginf for a fumble - seems to be in style now

You mean you don't like those 1.5 yard outs he throwns about 9 times a game? :wow:

I agree that we need to open it up more. It seemed like every time Cody completed a short pass, the KU defenders were all over him. It definitely seemed like KU was daring us to go deep.

We will have to wait for next year, damn it. Losses to Tech and Mizzou. Wins over IState and Neb.

We deserve a hell of a lot better.

Anyone else think that Hugh's knee was down on that fumble? I've seen no discussion about this, but I am POSITIVE that his knee was down.

Like I said, my nut is there for the taking. I have lived and died with the Buffs since the mid-80's. Hawk is ready to get us back to where we need to be.....I just wish he would hurry the hell up....

C-Hawk is the leader of the offense. When McKnight, Williams, Sprague, DeVree, Celestine or Smith give up on Cody, then it's time to change. When the o-line starts giving up on blocking, then consider changing. But so long as the offense rallies behind Cody as their QB, coach's son should start. He did some good things in the CSU and OU games. He put CU in a position to win today. Unfortunately winning games isn't automatic with picks outnumbering TDs on the season.

The problem is no one knows how good Nelson is right now except the coaches and the practice squad.

Hey guys, Nelson is the backup for a reason, he ain't as good as Cody.. Stop thinking that Nelson is the savior, its pointless and a waste of time.. Little Hawk is going to be the starter through this season..

I say let Hawkins finish the season unless we have a Mark Sanchez back there somewhere that I'm not seeing

we were 2-10 last season....

While I think Cody doesnt look off much from the first receiver.... that can be learned... AND coached..... he is a FRESHMAN! give the kid some time.

after the last few games i am just not convinced that Hawkins has the arm to be anything more than okay for the Buffs. he never challenges deep and when he does the ball seems to float on him and even his out passes are not crisp...the ball sometimes almost comes out end over end. i am not saying bench him as he is obviously the best on the roster right now but in no way should his play intimidate recruits for signing up.

I remember these arguments over at Netbuffs back in the Neu days...

"Bledsoe, put in Bledsoe..... Adam sucks. Put in Taylor Barton. Barton will be our saivor.... Barton sucks. Colvin will lead us to the promised land..." and on and on and on.

I think the point of my post was that because Cody is Dan's son, they will both be open to criticism beyond what there would be if Cody wasn't the coaches son. Also, to be clear, I don't think the soon to come critisism is warranted. And believe me, I know the Denver press. The criticism will come.
