Interesting podcast of Brian Howell talking with Coach JR Payne about the past season, the players and off season plans. A couple points that jumped out at me:
- JR called Mya Hollingshed a wing player, not a forward
- Called Annika Jank a power forward
- Confirmed that Peyton Carter is joining the team this fall.
- No discussion of any other potential recruits
- Alexis surgery went well and how her summer will unfold... the kinds of things she will be doing.

Mya is a 4 and I'm not sure why JR keeps calling her a guard or a wing. Maybe she should tell her staff because they call her a 4. Agree that Jank is a stretch 4. We are basically going three guards under this staff meaning the 3 will be athletic who can rebound like Haley this year and knight next year (hopefully).

Brian Howell: the players are not "girls". They are women! High school players are girls. College players are women. Why do you think it's called Colorado Women's basketball? There have been a lot of comments about coaches and media calling players girls on social media. Why and when did this start?

I may have to disagree with you here but maybe I'm just old. LOL. I don't consider college boys men either. They are both men and women by the time they graduate though. Maybe "young women" is the most accurate term.

I listened earlier this afternoon. It's nice to get a bit of a followup to the season as well as a sense of what's coming up this summer, etc.

JR most definitely stated that Mya Hollingshed is a wing, and an athletic one at that. Stated that she is very talented, but will take some time to adjust to college speed.

When she talked about Monarch's Peyton Carter which is interesting as she has hasn't signed with CU as far as I know , so perhaps she is coming as a preferred walk-on. JR said she is 5-8 and more athletic than has been reported.

I too liked that she knows the players need to continue to work on their strength. And she says the biggest issue to be worked on for next season is rebounding.

It's great that she's always positive and at the same time is wanting to push the team. For next season a total of 17 wins won't cut it in her eyes.

I would guess I am older than you. Young women would make me happy, but girls? No way. CU changed from being Lady Buffs to Buffs back in the 90's and the program's name is Colorado Women's basketball, not Colorado girl's basketball. Brian Howell is a journalist and he should know better.

I agree. Journalists covering college sports should know this. High School is referred to as boys/girls. College is referred to as men's/women's. Not that I think that Brian in any way had a disrespectful thought in his brain with this -- he covers CU women's sports with a lot of enthusiasm and depth.

That he does. I don't think Brian met to be disrespectful, but I cringed every time he said girls. This season, whoever runs CU's twitter and facebook also called the players girls. I called them out on Twitter and somebody else did on Facebook. It isn't just me.

Yeah, I replied on twitter once or twice, and responded to an email that used "lady buffs". Cmon, people! A Little respect

Having been around the women's basketball program since day 1, I think people forget what it was like before Title IX. Buffs played in a tournament at the now DIII college I attended and won. Talking to the coach, they got from Boulder to south of Des Moines IA in two vans and that is how they were going home.

In the early, early days, they didn't schedule games far enough away where they would have to fly. There wasn't enough $$$ for flights.

How the sport has grown! Charter flights were not a part of the program until late 90's or early 2000's.
