WBB '17 CO PG Peyton Carter (PWO - Signed to COLORADO)

I'm not sure she is on the Buff's radar but we do have enough available scholarships to at least consider her. It would be wise to have local recruit and she could have time to improve her game, since we are fairly deep at guard.

I'll take a shot at this. There are several competing interests here. One of course is the in-state recruiting angle. CU hasn't had a lot of success in this department in recent years (I'm being polite here). The only in-state on the roster Lauren Huggins is a fifth year senior. So yes, I would say this coaching staff needs get going on the recruiting front in Colorado. Unfortunately it appears Michaela Onyenwere, hands down the top in-state recruit this year, is not giving CU a look. She's generally considered a top 50 prospect nationally.

With 15 scholarships available it would seem the coaching staff could take a flyer or two on prospects. In any given season only about nine players get seignificant playing time. That leaves six or so (assuming all scholarships are being used) don't see much action. If CU were to sign a player that consistently ended up in the six that didn't play much and she remained there all four seasons I'm not sure what type of message that sends to other potential recruits. This isn't to say that CU shouldn't take a flyer on an in-state prospect, but I believe there are risks for CU. Does it set back in-state recruiting if the Colorado players aren't getting any significant playing time?

Personally, I would be as sure as possible if I were recruiting in-state that the players that they could make the top nine at some point.

Looks like her stock is rising on the national recruiting scene. I'm not sure she is on the Buff's radar but we do have enough available scholarships to at least consider her. It would be wise to have local recruit and she could have time to improve her game, since we are fairly deep at guard.

Coaches more than considered Peyton and we have a local recruit! Welcome, Peyton.

I have seen someone asking about a "rumor" that Peyton will be a PWO. If true, that would explain the lack of a signing tweet/article.

Article in todays Daily Camera about yesterday's Monarch BB loss by 8 to Highlands Ranch has in it a quote from Peyton Carter followed by this: " ... Carter said after the game, attended also by her future coach at the University of Colorado, JR Payne. "

That's awesome. Shows they still support her even though she's already coming.

A senior, Carter will join the Buffs as a preferred walk-on and arrive for summer school in July.

"We are so happy that Peyton will be staying home in Colorado to be a Buff next year," Payne said in a press release. "Peyton has been coming to Coors Events Center since she was a little girl and I believe she was destined to be a Buff from the beginning."

Carter is a 5-foot-7 point guard who was given a three-star rating from ESPN. She received 14 Division I scholarship offers, but couldn't resist her desire to play at CU.

The fact that she would pass up a guarantee of somebody paying her way to school to walk-on in Boulder says a lot about her love for CU but says even more about the person we have in Coach Payne.

This program is going to be good and it will be no shock at all if this young lady becomes an important contributor.

Article by Brian Howel in today's BDC answers (for now) the PWO vs scholarship question for Peyton: she is on scholarship this year and has been promised scholarship for her senior year. She plans to work towards gaining the other 2 seasons also.

Good to hear that you enjoyed watching Peyton. I like her attitude about earning the other 2 scholarship years.
