a few rumors floating around regarding some Big 12 coaches:

Fran is on his way out for sure, apparently his inside info rag is going to cost him big time, some talk he will fill the SMU job. One big talking Aggie is saying the replacement for Fran will be a NFL coach with one year left on his current contract. I guess Kubiak (played at aTm) or Chucky Gruden.

Mangino is being tossed around, of course figuratively, as a candidate for the Pitt job after Wanny gets run.

Since it is the season for coaching rumor mongering, I could see HCRP sweating a few pounds off on the sidelines in Tucson next year...just a guess.

Aggy was all over Tuberville, but it seems that ain't gonna happen. I think Auburn gives him a nice raise after the season and Aggy looks elsewhere. I just don't see Kubiak leaving Houston after this year. Gruden could be a possibility, but I think he's a horrible fit for College Station.

I just don't see most of these happening. Kubiak has always wanted to go back to Houston...but to take the aTm job seems like a reach now that he is already down there.

Ku to Pitt as of right now seems like a step down IMHO.

Prince is a Kansas guy...he apparently LOVES it there.

Just my 2 cents anyway

You have to think the pressure is on Arizona to make a pretty big hire with the success Erickson is having at ASU. Should be interesting to see what happens there and at UCLA.

Manigino to Pitt is interesting. The theory goes that Mangino and the AD don't see eye to eye and Mangino is from PA. Pitt really isn't a step up but Pitt has more of a chance in the Big East than KU does in the B12, so who knows?

HCRP has been pretty impressive and I could see an upper BCS team taking a look given his success at KSU. Hard for me to believe he loves it there...but once again, who knows?

I have heard Belicheck at aTm also, although I have a hard time believing that one.

I think both jobs open up this year. Petrino at UCLA would be interesting, but I doubt that happens.

In A&M's dreams would Kubiak leave Houston for the college game.
Kubiak is an alum, so I can see how his name would come up.

But the guy has been in the NFL ever since his playing days. He's got a big fat NFL contract and a shot at being the franchise coach on the NFLs newest expansion team?

Somehow I just can't picture Kubiak sitting on the sofa with the parents of some highschool kid on an A$M recruitment trip when his player decisions up to this point have included choosing between Reggie Bush and Mario Williams for first pick in the NFL draft.

When Kubes was all but the new HC at CU I was bummed. I just didn't see him as the dynamic recruiter type. Thats the thing about college coaching: you have to really want to and love to recruit. I just don't see Kubes wanting to or loving to.

I just remember HCRP making this big stink about being raised in Kansas and how happy he was to return. Working class mentality, blue collar people, etc, blah, blah, blah. The thing is that it all really seemed genuine....I just don't see him turning his back on his "home" state.

I guess I could see the Mangino to Pitt move if what you said about his relationship with the AD is true. At the same time though, he has KU at 8-0.....K ****ing U.

I didn't know Prince was from KS. Maybe it is his dream job. The guy can coach, even if he does look kind of crazy at times.

KU, I still think, is a fraud. I expect they will crater the last part of the season. But every weeek they are making my opinion look weaker and weaker.

KU is, always has been, and always will be a basketball school. Mangina has to know that. I could see that making him decide to capitalize on this season to get a job at a school where football would come first. The thing is, he might be able to do better than Pitt coming off this season.

I felt the same as DBT about Kubes when it looked like he might come to CU. I just can't see him as the dynamic recruiter type. Of course, I had the same question about Pete Carroll, so maybe I'm not an expert on the subject.

I agree with this 100%....I was really dissappointed when we lost to them. Then I watched the aTm v. kU game last weekend. They really might go undefeated until they play in the B12 CCG....then I think they truly get exposed.

If we beat MU this weekend...I think that KU beats them for sure.

KU plays a weak Big XII (& non-conf) schedule this year. They don't get OU or UT, but yes, their win in College Station was impressive. Even if they make noise this year, w/o recruiting lights-out which won't happen at that basketball school, they'll be brought back down to reality next year, IMO.
I have a hard time seeing them being able to compete at this level year in and year out. Mangino may want to jump while the going is good.

Here's the other thing about Mangino. He will NEVER get a shot to be the coach at a big time program. He's not the "attractive" hire that big time boosters will be looking for.

Kubiak wanted the aTm job badly when Fran was hired, but they didn't give him a sniff. It would be surprising, but not unbelievable if he left Houston to go there.

Also, I saw on huskerpedia that the coaches under consideration for NU are Jeff Tedford, Urban Meyer, Bill Belichick, and Bear Bryant's ghost.

Bear Bryant's ghost isn't a very good pick. He has been on the Tide sidelines for the last couple decades and hasn't done ****.

I have to admit. The more "crazy" talk I hear about Prince the more I like him. That's the kind of guy you want to play for. Somebody that creates a question in your mind whether you could kick his ass or not. Prince seems to be an alpha dawg. I like that.

Jeff Tedford, Urban Meyer, Bill Belichick,

I'm sure they are all just sitting up at night waiting for that phone to ring, drooling in anticipation.

No way Belichick would stay at New England if a prestigious opportunity to work for the huckster program came along. :smile2:
