You stay classy, Lincoln

people do stupid stuff when they're drunk.

interesting that when husker fans talk about some things that CU fans do (none of which come close to death threats) it is chalked up to a culture lacking class surrounding CU and the state of CO....yet when husker fans show their true colors....it's just the alcohol talking. :sad2:

It speaks for itself.... this is wrong, it is wrong for an NU fan to do this period. its a game.... not life.

it is wrong at CU, NU, KU, OU, UT or anyplace this has happened or not happened. Hopefully this guy is found, charged and prosecuted.

In the end I dont see how this affects what husker fan thinks of cu fan or vs virsa.... it does not represent NU fans, this is a sick person. this should be a common feeling for all sports fans.
to lump it in as a "oh, see how bad you guys are" is PATHETIC.

I agree. I would suggest that this statement is equally applicable to NU fans labeling all CU fans "trash-throwing goons" based on the actions of a VERY small group of rowdy drunk students in 2005.

or a fan of a team that rips the scrotum of a fan from another team?

there are levels of classlessness and there are individual acts that are an abomination to call it fan behavior in the first place. IMO poor fan behavior as a group and these other types of acts are not even comparable. To lump the example of a group of students that disrupt a game enough that they are asked to leave (as an entire group) and the acts of death threats or scrotum tears is perplexing at best.

I've been thinking about this today... though we care a lot about our Buffs, anyone with half a Fusker degree could tell you the level of passion and fervor that Colorado football arouses in Boulder and Denver is minuscule compared to the sort of insanity that occurs in Lincoln, Norman, Gainsville, Columbus, and Baton Rouge every fall. But I'm glad things are that way.

In Boulder, football is an activity. It's a reason to celebrate. It's entertainment. In "big time football" towns, the fanaticism that follows their successes and failures borders on the absurd; it's regularly referred to as a religion, and but it's more like a leaderless cult. By merit of their obsession with the game, the people in those towns have a great deal more "respect" (as they'd put it) for football, their stadium, opposing fans, and etc... but they're also so dependent on their football team for ego gratification that they are incapable of dealing with losing. They are so mired in their program's history and culture that they can't understand how someone could conceivably root for any other team than their own. Put simply, they're nuts.

This is why in Boulder you don't have to look far to find plenty of trash talking, binge drinking, and the occasional bout of garbage tossing, because we don't equate going to a football game with attending Sunday mass. But you'll never hear about a CU fan calling in a death threat on a coach, or a player, or anyone else associated with the program. You'll never hear about a CU fan castrating a Nebraska fan, or biting off the nose of a visiting KState alum.

Most people at CU and Nebraska alike are perfectly rational people, but it's the fringe elements that leave scars on college football programs. I'd imagine that CU has the same percentage of unruly fans within the Buff faithful as Nebraska has within their nefarious red army, but the difference is that our unruly fans are more likely to tell an opposing fan to "**** off", then throw a hotdog at them. Their unruly fans are more likely to... well, to threaten to murder their defensive coordinator.

Personally, I'll take a tempermental fan base with leanings towards belligerence over a devoted fan base with leanings towards sociopathic behavior any day of the week. Especially Saturdays. :smile2:

you NEG REPed me? what's next....death threats? :wow:

At CU the clowns seems to be the state politicians and the PC administration. Maybe as crazy as a Neb fan but more subtle and able to work "within the system" to crap on the Buffs

are you attacking me Ruff?

Some people need to get a freaking life! This is absolutely ridiculous considering it's just a damn game. This guy's kids are probably giving the coaches kids a hard time as well. :sad2:

Unfortunately, the guy who made this call is pretty likely to either have 0 kids or 40 kids. I'm leaning towards the latter... he's probably up to assistant manager at his Conoco by now, and a title like that pretty much acts as a "Have Sex Every Night of the Week" card from what I've heard.

Well, that's how things works in Grand Island anyway.

that happens with that one, unfortunately. :sad1:

if that is an attempt to angellicize the nu hoarde, please consider the bottles that got thrown AT brandon drumm in the endzone in lincoln. people as a group DAMN WELL should have been asked to leave, but since it was the redduns that did the throwing, nothing happened.

THAT, combined with subsequent maneuverings to backhand slam another group is slimy, at best.

Quick threadjack -

My buddy told me this past weekend that some kNU fans who have fusker season tickets (but live in Denver) could not even give their tickets away to last week's game against KSU. They were shocked since it had never been a problem in the past.

That one rates up there in my book along with the highlights of the fans heading for the exits during the 3rd quarter earlier this season.

Resume thread...

and your point? so should the group that threw bottles at my group in boulder... they still dont compare to death threats and scrotum tears IMO.

and I signed my neg rep in capitol farking letters, more than me can say for yoos.

i hope nobody in niblet nation is trying to compare 30 bottles tossed onto a field with death threats made at a coach of a college football team....?

here is what i wrote on the death threat thread on huskerpedia:

"this is just so sad....and yet another example of the decline of the american empire.

i guess i just don't get it coming from an "apathetic" fan base that doesn't care enough to threaten the life of a football coach...but just enough to throw 30 water bottles on the field.

kind of puts things into perspective, doesn't it?"

i have not neg repped you in ages. the last i did for you was when you were stirring up trouble and talking smack when barney was at the helm.

every time i do neg rep, i sign it. if you got slapped with a red poit, you are going to have to look elsewhere.

with that cleared up, death threats are rather absurd. so is scrotum ripping. just shy of that level of asinine is a fan who points his finger at another fanbase for bottle throwing when his hucked bottles as well. this type of idot is completely mypoic about what his own fans did, and wants to over dramatize an incident, and attempt to paint it as a norm rather than an exception. that idot, dear, looks to be someone a lot like you.

uhm, yes, he was attempting to compare it.

a nasty and inconvienient fact of the matter - bottle throwing incident for bottle throwing incident - is that the cu students threw the bottles at the empty end of the field. huskers threw it at an opposing athlete who just scored one in their house.

according to the husker nation, their actions are quite allright, while our students are satans spawn.

i know. it defies logic.

well at least we know he is a cool looking, weight losing, handsom greying devil.:smile2::thumbsup:

What I cannot figure out is how in the world they still claim some sort of high spot on the pedestal when it comes to classy fans. They want to kill a football coach over a ****ing football game. So what if a few students threw some trash on the field, the Lincoln PD now has to provide security to Cosgrove and his family for fear of him getting murdered. Boulder PD has to provide extra security to keep some 18 year old kids from throwing pop-corn boxes onto a football field. Where is the logic in this? How can anyone still claim they have the best fans? It is isane......

Maybe their definition of 'best' means 'best at taking out someone at a thousand yards with a crosswind'.:wink2:

Anyone who comes out and claims to be the best at something isn't. I don't think we have the best fans I honestly think we have good fans with a few bad apples in there. Our fans are passionate and at times rapid. Can you really expect anything less though from the state of Nebraska considering that this is all they have to watch as far as sport entertainment goes. The death threat stuff is sad and it really pisses me off to no end that someone would take this that far! The midwest is boring at best so the only thing we can do is become very passionate about the teams we like. :wink2:
