Weak nonconference schedules really hurting Missouri and Kansas.

Yeah, I know, we have to fill seats or whatever.. or some other lame excuse CU puts out there..

Bohn is a frickin clown for even scheduling West Virgina next year in the nonconference.. WE ALREADY PLAY TOO MANY TOUGH TEAMS.. EARTH TO CU ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT: WE AREN'T A BIG TIME PROGRAM ANYMORE.. And we aren't going to be one anytime soon as long as we keep scheduling all these teams..

Perfect example is this season.. Our team is limping toward the end because we are WORN OUT AND HAVE NO DEPTH.. Why? Because we've had to go all out since the start of the season.. Frickin ridiculous..

If we had 3 cupcakes and CSU we would be bowling right now.. Remember that when our season ends on another downer on Friday Buff fans.. :sad2:

Wins bring fans to the stadium, not moral victories against the FSU's etc of the world.

That's a pretty grim assessment, as I recall Coach Mac believed the opposite and it seemed to serve the Buffs pretty well. I'd hate to see us go the unl, KU, KSU route of scheduling barber colleges. The only way to get better is to play the best.

Yet another year where the Buffs will most likely sit at home to watch the other teams go to bowl games.

Take Arizona State and FSU off the schedule -- and even count the OU game as a loss - and this team is going bowling. They aren't necessarily any better as a football team -- but at least we get three more weeks of practices for the bowl prep. That is a killer for this young team.

This ain't the Big 8 and this ain't 1988..

You're about as likable as testicular cancer.

Do you see kids lining up to play for KU and Kansas State so they can spend their Augusts and Septembers squaring off against Southern Westchester Community College and National American University? Hell no.

Kids want to play on national TV, and they want to square off against the big boys. They want to pay in Tallahassee and Morgantown, and they want ESPN to be crawling all over their campus during the non conference season.

If we had 3 cupcakes and CSU, we wouldn't have signed Major or Polk. If we had played 3 cupcakes and CSU Oklahoma would have absolutely destroyed us, and Kansas would have doubled that shellacking. Yeah, the team's thin, but they're gritty as hell, and they're nationally relevant simply by merit of the MASSIVE number of nationally televised games we've played this year (show me a sub .500 team other than Notre Dame that's come within a mile of CU's level of exposure this season, and I'll show you a sub .500 team that doesn't exist).

Eat a penis, penishead.

Typical CU fan -- would rather watch the Buffs lost 45-10 to Florida State than win 45-10 against a small college school.

And I could have sworn Kansas' game against IOWA STATE was on national television today....

I guess you rather be 5-6 than 11-0 Kansas...

Oh yeah, How can Kansas beat us? They don't play anyone tough in the nonconference.. How the heck are they able to get the confidence to win all these games with that weak nonconference schedule..:lol:

Yes, but how many games have we had televised this year? That gets us a lot of exposure for recruiting, but I admit it does hurt if we won't get to a bowl game this year (those extra practices would certainly help out a LOT more). We beat a damn good OU because they, in part, had only played weak competition and no one outside of their home state in their nonconf games. Once we have enough depth then we'll be fine, but look at the experience our team has gotten this past year. That will pay off in the coming years. USC always has a hard schedule and while this is a down year--for them--it gives them enough experience to be a legit contender every year. I don't think we could ever be a USC-type of program (they are in a recruiting hotbed with an ex-NFL coach), there's no reason why we can't have a legit shot at the Big 12 Championship every 2-3 years. I just wish that SoS was more of a factor in the rankings so that'd it force at least one quality nonconf game.

MU played and beat a quality Illinois this year. KU not only played a weak non-conf schedule, but a weak Big 12 one too (no OU or UT, how is that possible?!?), until next weekend. The next few weeks will show either the strength or the weakness of the Big 12. It's too bad it really had to wait until now :/

It would be really nice if we could somehow crank up the time-machine and put OU and OSU on near-death-penalty probation again, and put ISU and KSU and MU and KU into the "we suck and we like it" mode again, and kick Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&M out of the conference while we're at it. That is what 1988 - 1994 was, after all. But this is 2007 and the CU college football landscape is completely different.

As it is-- the conference is PLENTY difficult without all the killer non-conference games.

If KU beats MU, they will play OU in the Big 12 championship game. If they win that game, they will have beaten TWO teams ranked in the top 5 in the BCS. If KU wins the Big 12 championship game, they are going to play for the national championship. If KU loses to OU - there's still a pretty good chance that they will go play in a BCS bowl game. At the absolute worst they'll be playing in a very good bowl game. Tell me again why they need to play a difficult non-conference schedule?

OU has already beaten one team in the top 5 in the BCS - and they'll beat another if they beat KU in the Big 12 Championship game. If OU wins they wins the Big 12 Championship game they'll be playing for the national championship. If they lose the Big 12 championship game, more than likely they will fall all the way back to the Cotton Bowl. Not a great bowl- but still 100x better than the one CU is going to be playing in. Tell me again why they need to play a difficult non-conference schedule?

If MU beats KU next week, their only loss on the season will have been against the #2 team in the BCS. They'll get a rematch in San Antonio. If Mizzou beats KU, and then beats OU in the Big 12 Championship game, there's a decent chance that THEY will play in the national championship game. Lose to KU or lose the Big 12 championship game and the Tigers still go to a very nice bowl. Tell me again why they need to play a difficult non-conference schedule?

Ah, thanks for clarifying.....:wow:

There's enough good competition in the Big 12 that we don't need to have tough nonconference games..

You guys also seem to forget that OU(also Okie State too) was on probation during our best years of the early 90's.. There was only one legit team in the conference (Nebraska).. The Big 8 wasn't a tough conference during this time.. CU had to schedule out of conference in order to move up in the polls and get noticed..

That ain't the case anymore in the Big 12..

To a degree although not with the same color as written, I agree with the point of the post. With the BCS the way it is structured it is silly to schedule national power houses in your non-con schedule. With the way the point structure is set up you can play those patsies and then wait for those ahead of you to fall come November, if you take care of your conference play then you will be golden. If you replace FSU and ASU(although when it was scheduled it should have been a given win) with more MAC or WAC teams we might be looking at the Holiday Bowl.

Cupcakes aren't all that much fun for the fans. I follow Boise State and its getting hard to watch them beat shi* out of everyone they play in the WAC. They try to make games exciting in the media the week before a game but we all know how it will go. This week was rivalry week against Idaho??!!?? JEEZ that was a nail biter.

I vote we play tough teams and win.

It doesn't have to be cupcakes but christ, it doesn't need to be FSU, West Virginia, and Texas three weeks in a row........

That's like those idiots on Huskerboard clamoring to make OU their Turkey Day game every year, what morons, they would have to play a rotated south schedule of Texas, Texas A&M, and OU all in the same season. They are so stupid because they fond away for their tradition but they cannot remember that at the time it was only the two of them. So when they gangbanged the rest of their puss schedule then they would dry hump each other at the end of the season, it would be a little bit different in this day and age in the Big 12.

Kansas has backed into their #2 spot because of all of the upsets. They'll rightfully earn or lose it next week and possibly the week after next. I'd kill for CU to be 10-1 or 11-1 right now, but we just aren't there yet. We don't have the talent for a 10+ win season right now.

I understand what you are saying though. With the addition of the 12th game (and with Hawaii in the future possibly 13, 14 or 15 games (big 12 championship game and bowl) it's hard to finish strong. Great teams finish strong and it's hard to do that with so many hard games. Personally, I wish we just played 1 good, quality nonconf opponent every year to help prepare us for the big 12.

The thing is, however, a lot of teams that used to be patsies are only going for a 1-1 or 2-1 deal. Unless you play 1AA teams it's not easy to schedule outside of your conference now a days. The thing is, if you do schedule a 1AA team and lose you've lost a lot of credibility. Hell, if you lose a nonconf game against a non-BCS conference you lose a lot of credibility also. There are a lot of recent examples of that happening and it only seems to be happening more so lately (us last year against Montana St and CSU, Michigan, Minnesota, Ok St, ISU).

Who picks you for their bowl, after the BCS bowls, are largely determined by how well your fanbase travels. It sucks, but CFB is.

I'm just wishing we get to a bowl and force the corn to miss one. That'd be a bright spot on yet another rebuilding year.

I'm sorry, but you are just being a huge pussy if you don't enjoy playing tough non-con opponents, and if you are seriously contending that our games against ASU and FSU are the difference between us being 5-6 or 11-0, you ain't that bright either.

IF we have the talent to contend for a MNC, we will be able to beat teams like this year's FSU at home.

Yeah, a bowl would be nice this year, but I don't spend money on season tickets to watch directional schools play in a three quarters empty Folsom.

Maybe you guys would be happier if we jumped to the Mountain West. Then we could play even more easy teams.

Then I am what I am, when we have to play Mizzou, Kansas, NU, Texas, and Texas A&M next season, I see no reason to play West Virginia and Florida State. Now I used to believe differently, but that was before the BCS and you had to have style points. Now you don't, you only have to come our unscathed or at least 1 loss from a BCS conference. Now don't get me wrong, don't go and schedule the Citadel ala Auburn, but New Mexico State won't hurt you.

Question: Does winning the Big XII and going undefeated (even if it's beating 3 Mtn West teams at home) enough to get you in the title game in any given year. Signs are beginning to point to yes.

Granted, if Ohio State or Oregon won last week, we'd all be saying how OU/KU/Mizzou should be in title game instead of a one-loss LSU.

I swear to god, until the bowl games are over, I'm going to make every post here a reason why we need football playoffs.

Here's another thing: Scheduling a team like West Virginia, Florida State, or ASU brings money IN to the athletic department (increased ticket revenue, national TV money, increased donations in the case of a win).

Conversely, scheduling a team like Montana State, Northern Iowa, McNeese State, or DeVry takes money OUT of the athletic department (no TV, ticket sales flop, MASSIVE embarrassment and horrible PR in the case of a loss). Apart from that, it COSTS MONEY to play these teams. BCS programs pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to get the free win that these hapless schools can provide, and the price goes up every year.

With the athletic department (and for that matter, CU as a whole) in such dire financial straits, the only scheduling tactic that makes any sense whatsoever is to schedule a top quality, exciting non conference schedule. It's dollars and sense, folks.

No one is saying schedule teams as bad as mcneese and such but perhaps a couple of mac teams or wac teams, csu and then one good team would be the way to go. yeah tough schedules make us better, but so does the extra practice we get if we go to a bowl game. Our scheduling is ridiculous and hurts us, I would rather be 8-4 and have a weak schedule than 5-7 with the toughest schedule in the nation but thats just me. One real good non conference team is enough. Downgrading our schedule doesnt mean it has to be a joke, a schedule consisting of csu, toledo (or similar), Nevada (or similar) then your west virginia/georgia/lsu/oregon/fsu or whatever, is a very good schedule. I mean next year we should be a better team but with that schedule I think its realistic to say we go 6-6 maybe worse I hope im wrong but... winning is more important then scheduling, if we go 4-0 in non conference we will have more fans for big 12 games then we would if we go 2-2, and the ticket sales will even itself out anyways.

No but its the difference between 5-6 an 7-4, and thats a huge difference for recruiting and the perception of our team. Sure you can tell a big time recruit we have a real tough schedule and we are improving but results speak louder and if we miss a bowl (hell even if we go bowling at 6-6) we might lose a couple recruits we could have had otherwise plus the extra practice time and a bowl game.

Couldn't have said it better. I look forward to the WVU series. Count me in the 'hard OOC' camp. CSU and MofO ARE cupcakes.

Jimmy you are unbelievable.

You and your sandy f*u*c*k*i*n*g vagina.

It's clear you're pissed the buffs didn't play and lose today. You're so craving a chance to tear our buffs down that you went out of your way to invent something to bitch about. No one loves your misery more than you. In fact no one loves it but you. Seek help.

Just remember you lose one of those marshmello games and your season is about over - imagine if Boise State had beat the Huskies - they are beating everyone but with the OOC loss they will not likely crack the top 12.

Of course you can be like Fresno State and beat your team to a pulp in OOC play.

Like most things in life - the truth is somewhere in between. I CU's schedule playing the hard guys - "its division I football"

Scheduling is like economics - its a dismall science

Go Buffs

Hell yeah it would be great if CU could play the cupcakes and win the b12 and go to the MNC every year. But Kansas has NO CHANCE of going to the MNC if all those upsets didn't happen this year, even if they win out. I want the best of both worlds, the hard OCC, and the undefeated season. And I think those are in our future with Hawk here. Each year the talent will rise, and more wins will come, and the talent will rise again.

I have to say, Jimmybuff and the Col. might be the first two Buffs that I put on the ignore list.:smile2:
