Overview of the year

Ok it’s not the end of the season but we are far enough along to have a feel for how it went.

Overall a great season IMHO, maybe an 8.5 out of 10. Only a few more wins for the Buffs and a few more top commits could have made it better up to this point. All the top teams getting knocked off one by one has been the primary reason I have enjoyed this season. This close to the end of the year and still nothing has been settled and that is good for the game.

My vote on some of the specifics:

Season highs:
1. Big improvement for the Buffs. Bowl or not, beat the hucksters or not this is a much better team than last year’s squad and I think there is reason for real optimism. The Buffs made a good choice in Hawkins and a couple of years from now when that direct snap is reeling off game breaking plays because we are much tougher to defense there won’t be any complaining.
2. The hucksters getting trounced in such grand fashion. What Buff fan could ask for more? :smile2:
3. Dam Dame getting the same kind of beatings only worse. Charlie Whale sure has done a much better job than his predecessor. :smile2:
4. All these upsets and two loss teams. Bring on a playoff system.
5. AFA, nice to see Calhoun off to a good start with his new scheme

Season lows
1. 55 – 10 I hate to see a Buff loss that isn’t competitive and this was the worst of the year.
2. Texas Tech @ 8 – 4 Leach is a big mouth and everybody here worships Tech. You never hear the end of it when they win.
3. Gundy’s Cowgirls @ 6 – 5 I still remember when the jerk was a college QB.

Biggest Surprises
1. Kansas. Who would a thunk it possible? Doughnut man has got them to the brink.
2. Connecticut and Cincinnati. Seemed to come out of nowhere and took down some big teams in the process.
3. Wolverine’s loss to Appalachian State. WOW!
4. Buffs big win over OU. I always pick CU but I really didn’t think they had much of a chance

Biggest disappointments
1. Cal’s season. This was supposed to be a big year for the Golden Bears. Challenge for the PAC 10 title they all said. For those who fear the hucksters getting Tedford do we really have that much to worry about??
2. TCU. For all the speak they never really jelled and played like the top ten team they were supposed to be.
3. UCLA. Another classic letdown. Anytime a team starts to talk about being a “spoiler” you know they didn’t meet expectations.
4. Cally’s leaving. Hey they could actually bring in a new coach that might “restore the arrogance” to some degree.

My Lament:
Another year of college football is almost over
